Over several visits to Fes, i found this to be the most specious Riad in the medina. Beautiful lush gardens, lots of sitting area around in public spaces. My room itself is a bit small and dark but overall i found the place quite charming. I am here during music festival so busy time for town. Would have wished to stay in one of the suites, which i am told is magical. Perhaps next time.

I am not sure if the woman who was working in the hammam just wanted to get home as it is Ramadan. It was a little like going through a car wash. There was no steam in the hammam, she used a scrubber that was used and used the same on both of us. Seemed very rushed and not at all relaxing. The table is not long enough so it digs into your ankles when you are laying on your stomach during the scrub. Also the mat to lay your head on is a rolled up yoga mat that does not appear clean. We may have been spoiled by a previous hammam that was amazing and less expensive. There are definitely better hammam experiences out there.
As far as the cafe, you can get a glass of wine to recover from the experience.

We stayed at the Riad for 4 nights in early April. The riad is a quieter part of the medina, and is lovely if quirky. We had the pasha suite which was huge and could easily accommodate 4 adults. There are several lovely riads in Fez, but what I found exceptional was the service. The staff including the manager (Hussein), the porters, the cafe servers were all extremely helpful and gracious. Our 8-year old daughter was warmly welcomed ( and not just tolerated as kids sometimes are at other hotels). The breakfast , served under the shade of trees in the garden, was very good. The only wrinkle was that the guide recommended to us by the riad was very focused on taking us to shops rather than sightseeing. We ventured out in the medina on our own the third day and made out fine. All in all, it was an excellent stay and I would stay there again.

Le Jardin des Biehn is accessed by foot and is an historic riad in the medina. Each room is different, each with its own quirky personality, and I was fortunate to experience two rooms thanks to the graciousness of the management. As in many older buildings from this era, the stair treads are deep and tiled, and railings are few and far between, although there are ropes to grab hold of, but no elevator. Due to some mobility limitations, my first room would have been hazardous for me to access easily, and after the first night I was moved to a gorgeous suite on the ground level off the garden. If stairs or balance is an issue, request a ground floor room. The cafe was not only good for breakfast, but our group of six travelers had a few delicious dinners there as well. Representatives from restaurants in the medina will come to Le Jardin and lead you to and from your destination should you wish to dine out more (navigating the medina is best left to experts), but sometimes after a full day of sightseeing, staying in is a welcome option. Although I never met the owner or manager, the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: The Pasha Suite is the room to be in, and although I was alone, two day beds in the study could accommodate a family of four easily.

The word Riad comes from the original arabic word for garden. Today many riads have interior courtyards with a fountain but not a garden. Le Jardin des Biehn has a large interior garden along with a beautiful fountain. Stepping into this riad, off the street, will delight and surprise as one has no idea such a large property exists. Each of the rooms are differently designed so we got to experience two rooms. Entering the Oriental room you climb a few stairs and the toilet is there, before you enter the suite (which is a bit far and dark in the middle of the night). The doors open to a sitting area with couch and oriental chest of drawers. You then come through another set of doors with stained glass above and enter a large bedroom. There is a king bed and an Chinese opium bed for reading, relaxing or even sleeping. There is a bathroom with a sink, chest of drawers and mirror. The shower is it's own room on the other side of the bedroom. Very sumptous bedroom. The other room our daughter was L-shaped with a rectangular sleeping area and a long and narrow closet and bathroom. Windows opened onto the riad garden. The staff was lovely and very helpful - even walking us to certain spots so we wouldn't get lost. Food in their restaurant is some of the best in Fes. Very tranquil spot to return to after a day in the bustling medina.

Room Tip: We liked the Oriental Room
