I am sure there are better places to stay in Fes, but I strongly doubt they come for these fares.

The riad is in a great location (GPS: 34.063837, -4.981026). It is in a side street near Talaa Seghira, a Medina main street. Bab Boujloud – the main gate surrounded by a crowd of cheap restaurants – is less than five minutes away. Batha Square – a busy and useful taxi stop – is just as far.

The riad has an handful of rooms, placed around a glass-covered courtyard – as the “riad” word implies – where they serve breakfast. Our room (Messria suite) was perfect: spacious, providing a large four-poster bed, a useful safe and a powerful, fully manageable air conditioner. We did not see any other room, but I assume they are all similar. The en suite bathroom is windowless but roomy and the hot water supply is large.

The free WiFi was not available in our first floor room, but only in the courtyard. Moreover, it is not fast enough for VoIP calls.

The included breakfast is decent, but lacks originality. The staff serves it at any time you request it (even at noon) without complaining. It is worth mentioning they offered one for free when we arrived the first day (around 10 am).

The staff is nice and helpful. If a need arises (a brief sickness, in our case) they were very attentive and prompt to help us. However I strongly suggest not to rely on them for guides, restaurants, suggestions; they are very insistent in recommending places and people they have an agreement with. We accepted an advice once – about a restaurant – and had a poor experience. I repeat: they are great running their riad, but do not ask for more. Follow the Internet instead, the WiFi is free.

Riad al Akhawaine was a great choice for our first trip to Fez-beautiful riad, very pleasant and helpfull stuff, all necessary information, pick up at the airport, great dinner at the hotel, local guide etc. (of course for extra fee, but anyway, very convenient, especially if you are not French speaking person)

Room Tip: We had suite najarine, was very nicely furnished, Moroccan style

Run by Kasem (he speaks several languages), this Riad is in a great position both for visiting the Medina and for taking your tour or taxi to Meknes or anywhere else, Comfortable and extremely attractive foyer and bedrooms, with handmade embroideries decorating the walls and huge bathrooms. Very pleasant and helpful owner and staff (we must make a particular mention of Mohammed, the quiet but extremely helpful evening staff manager) who made great efforts to ensure we had a pleasant stay.
Being a Riad, there are only stairs to the first and second floors, but then a little exercise is good for everyone (helps to digest the couscous).

Room Tip: Not suitable for people with mobility problems, othewise go for it, good value for money

Stayed in this delightful Riad in the heart of the Medina in Fez. It is obviously some hundreds of years old, but has been modernised for today’s traveller. The entry foyer, being the entire ground floor of the atrium, was beautifully decorated with traditional tiles and local artistic objects. The room we were allocated was actually a 4-room suite at the price of a single room in other Riads. It consisted of bedroom with Arabian 4-poster bed, huge bathroom, living room and enclosed outdoor patio. The staff were faultless in their service, and very helpful with information we needed outside the Riad, and very helpful in arranging guides and tours. For the price, I could not fault it, and I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite

The Riad is right in the middle of the Medina and you will really experience the Fes atmosphere.
The first day we arrived my wife and the 2 girls (our daughter and her friend) were very tired and did not feel like going out to eat. 1 person from the staff took me to a restaurant where I could order and the food was delivered to our suite at the time indicated. Thruout our stay the crew was really helpful and Kacem the owner manager always willing to help even driving me around to help me plan the rest of my trip.
Not a very fancy riad like some you can find in Marrakech but a really nice Moroccan B&B

We stayed in the suite on the top floor and my only complaint is that the bathroom is kind of bare and it is problematic where to put a toiletrie's bag

The staff make the place! From the very moment we arrived...right until the very moment we left we were treated amazingly. Seriously, the service is truly commendable! The most helpful and friendly staff of anywhere I have ever stayed. They couldn't do enough and were always happy to help in whatever way.

My sister and I arrived in the evening and had arranged a transfer through the riad. The driver was there as soon as we arrived at the airport - dropping us off at the Blue Gate (riad located a 5 min walk from there). A man was there as soon as we were dropped off to carry our luggage and take us straight to the riad - comforting, having arrived at night just the two of us girls. On arriving at the riad we were greeted by the staff, drawn a little map, told some safety tips etc., and shown to our room. The smoothest service from the airport to our room.

The riad is beautifully decorated in traditional style. The room we stayed in was lush - couldn't believe how nice it was for the price we paid.

It is located about a 5 min walk from the Blue Gate (Bab Bjloud).

Our expectations were completely surpassed on all accounts. It felt like home, a most beautiful home...that I feel compelled to return to - both the place and the riad.

If you get the chance to go to Fez, you must try and stay in this charming and perfectly located little riad.

We absolutely loved Riad Al Akhawaine. Not only was the riad beautiful and easy to find, the owner Kacem was so kind and helpful when we needed urgent assistance beyond the duties of the hotel. The Riad is just 200 meters or about a 5 min walk from the blue gate (Bab Bjloud) right down one of the main streets of the Fes medina. We had read that the Fes medina was a maze, but the Riad is very close to the blue gate. The walk to the Riad was completely hassle free. You also walk by some of the best cafe / dining offerings in the Medina. Visiting Morocco without a local friend or guide is adventurous and fun, but it can be very stressful. Riad Al Akhawaine was the place for us to relax and recharge, be free from worrying.

We arrived in the morning to Fes from Marrakech, where we were hassled in the street every day. We were so pleasantly surprised by the ordeliness of Fes and the genuinely friendly people we met. Riad Al Akhawaine offers pick up service for less than 10 € . We felt comfortable with our navigation skills so we didn´t make use of the service. We did get lost in trying to locate the blue gate by walking from the near by bus station, so the Riad´s service could be very helpful.

The Riad was recently renovated with tasteful designs, well thought out modern lighting system, offering the guest the true sense of Moroccan Riad culture, as well as modern utilities and comfort. We had an awesome suite on the 3rd floor, with a huge bathroom and a great shower. The riad was spotlessly clean with several very pleasant staff diligently working on maintenance and cleaning. The breakfast was plentiful with a selection of nice bread, eggs, honey, jams, coffee, tea, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast every morning. Wifi was very good at the Riad in the courtyard / lounge area. All the Riads we visited had only Wifi in the public area, not in the rooms, which was fine.
The place felt like home, a very beautiful home.

What also made our stay outstanding was the tremendous help the staff and the owner offered us when we needed to find a dentist at 10pm. One of us needed a root canal or atleast a deep cleaning, and was in unbearable pain. The hotel staff helped us with getting in touch with our family in the US, found a guide to lead us to the near by hospital. When it became apparent the hospital would not open, the Riad´s owner Kacem personally drove from new city at midnight to come pick us up and took us to the emergency room, which was all the way in the new city. Afterwards, Kacem insisted on driving us back to the Riad at 1am, when we could have hailed a taxi. The help that Kacem the Riad owner provided us was amazing and we will always be appreciative of his kindness.

Riad al akhawaine met and exceeded our expectations with its style, service quality, and tremendous help! We would love to return!
