Dar Sienna is an extraordinary place and I would highly recommend it to anyone who comes to Fes! It's a charming and beautiful house with breath-taking views of the medina from the roof terrace. My favorite part of the day was having the delicious homemade breakfast (always an amazing spread) or mint tea up there and gazing out at the rooftops. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, I felt well taken care of, especially as a solo female traveler. They went above and beyond to help me navigate the city and get settled in. The location is terrific, right next to Moulay Idriss Mosque as well as the woodworking and metalworking squares, a fairly long walk uphill to get to Bab Boujeloud and maybe not ideal for coming back at night, but I enjoyed the neighborhood a great deal. Another perk if you like cooking is the communal kitchen, nice to be able to buy food at the market and keep things on hand rather than be forced to eat out all the time.

The rooms are very comfortable and decorated with lovely Moroccan furnishings and textiles. I was there in June and though it was quite hot outside during the day, the rooms stayed cool and I didn't need a fan at night (though I was in the downstairs room and heard the upstairs rooms were a bit warmer). One small downside to the first floor bedroom is the bathroom is down a flight of fairly steep stairs, so just to keep that in mind in case you have any mobility issues or prefer not to have the facilities so far away. I would highly recommend timing your visit with the Sacred Music Festival in June, it's an incredible time and a great opportunity to hear amazing music!

Dar Siena is a lovely guesthouse with nice clean rooms and the staff were very kind and helpful. The Fes medina is a labyrinth, but Ahmed met us at the gate and helped us find our way around. I would definitely go back and recommend to friends.

Me and my husband visited dar sienna for 10 days at the start of ramadan because we wanted a beautiful and peaceful place to start our fasting. The house was just gorgeous and did feel very much like home.
We were met by a taxi driver at the airport and met by Ahamd at the gate to the old city closest to the house.
Ahmad and Sabah are very good people.
I would recommended renting the entire house even for just a couple. All the rooms have their own charm and we found ourselves rotating between each one. Two of the bedrooms have air conditioning which was well needed.
The terraces are stunning especially in the evening where the breeze picks up and birds fly up and over the stunning moulay idris minaret.
Ramadan is such a special time here and you can really feel the spirituality of this time. A canon would go off in the morning and evening to signal the beginning an end of the fast - very useful and 20 mins before the morning canon (3:30am) some mosques begin a humbling supplication to God.
Qarawouine mosque which is like 4 minutes walk was amazing for Friday prayers and even more special for the ramadan night prayers.
I think old fes is the best part of morocco I have been to a world away from Marrakech. There are people that ask for money as you walk around or for food when your buying bread etc and they are genuine hard up elderly ladies often widows with no income so please don't take offence. We tried to always have loose change and this worked out well.
Dar sienna also has a kitchen with everything needed to cook up a lovely dinner from the markets purchases.
Pick this place to stay you will not be disappointed. It has the location, it has very supportive staff (and being in a strange place can sometimes be daunting) and is a beautifully and lovingly decorated home from home.
The owner is fantastically nice and helpful and will ring you before you go for a friendly chat.

What else ? We are very happy of our stay in dar sienna for 3 nights. Located in the heart of the medina, it's the perfect place to explore the old city of Fez. Pick up service from the airport to the hotel is very useful. Ahmed who is managing the house also gives a lot of useful advices and likes to share Moroccan culture :-)

We've been in Fez for 8 days, guests of this charming Riad in the heart of the old Medina: Dar Sienna. I assure you that calling it a guesthouse does not do it justice: Dar Sienna is home.
There are so many things that make it special, first of all the people: the owner Sonhild is the best guest in every way, openhearted and bright, she makes you feel like you're family: she's like... oh, you can't say that in words! Ahmed, so kind and helpful from the very first time you meet him: he greets you on your arrival in Fez and takes you through the Medina to the door of the Riad, ever keeping a close eye on you. During the days you stay in Fez, he's always giving you the advices you need with a kindness you will absolutely love. Finally Saba, the maid, ever smiling and discreet while preparing your breakfast (delicious, by the way!) The location is really nice, in the centre of the Medina, in the sacred area (the VERY centre), next to the mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, the revered king and founder of Fez, with a wonderful double terrace. The remarkable attention to details in furnishing and the renovation of the Riad, makes it even more authentic, especially it gives you the feeling that everything has been made over time, piece by piece with a love and dedication really rare (we say this because you will find plenty of Riads furnished in a "moroccan style", but I doubt that you will experience the same passion we're talking about.)
There should be more places like this around the globe, not only in Fez.
Goobye Sonhild and Ahmed, 'til next time!
