“Jewel in the Crown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

We went on to stay in very special riads in Marrakech (Al Rimal) and Essaouira (Dar Loulema), However, Palais Amani was definitely the 'Jewel in the Crown' in terms of exquisite taste, detail, service, hosting by the owners - charming and erudite Jemima and Abdellaii, entertainment by the belly dancing chef and the delicious food and wine.
We were a group of 12 women. Many of us in double beds as opposed to twins as they are obviously more geared to couples. Didn't matter as the hotel is so special and such an oasis in the midst of the madness that is the Medina. Would have slept on their beautiful floor and still been happy.

Room Tip: If you can afford it - the suite is absolutely stunning!

The Riad has been beautifully restored and the hospitality is the best. I agree with all the glowing reports about this hotel. November is getting slightly late for meals outside but we had breakfast on the terrace twice. The breakfasts are interesting and appealing. The meals in the evening are wholesome and expertly cooked- not unusual in any way. We had a wonderful guide on the first day and ventured out on our own on the second- not much fun pester, pester! Couldn't wait to get back to hotel. If you want a television, ask for one when you book- only CNN and Al Jazeera.
We had a nightmare getting there with "Timetour" driver from Marrakech (not booked by Amani). Their driver is fine and took us to Casablanca. Fes is in my opinion more interesting than Marrakech because it is older and there is more to see but not easy to get to from London so would never go again which is a pity.

Room Tip: Suite 12 was very quiet even at 5am! Plenty of space to put things and very well thought out. Stunni...

From the minute you walk in, it is immediately apparent that you have chosen the right place. In the midst of the crowds and people and shops that can overload your being, Jemima and Abdelali have created a little piece of heaven. The authentic decor, the impeccable service, the delicious food, the gracious hospitalitiy of the entire staff is difficult to create, but it is there in abundance. We had the Grand Suite and it was wonderful -- 3 huge rooms and windows that opened to the garden with citrus trees and beautiful landscaping. While it was an interesting time to be there, during the holiday of the Eid where everyone slaughters a sheep, I am not sure I would go at that time again. Many shops never opened (of course there were enough that did -- ask my checkbook!!), the smell and sight of blood and sheep skin wasn't my favorite thing. However, Jemima and Abdelali, my husband and myself, had many laughs about that and everything. It is wonderul, they are wonderful. GO!!!

Great stay! Very friendly. Would highly recommend staying here. The staff was extremely helpful, kind, and hospitable. The dinner was also excellent- one of the best meals we had during our stay in Morocco. Riad was in the market place and easily accessible to us during our stay. Amazing view of the city from the rooftop.

Palais Amani is a stunning riad located in the medina of Fes. Decor wise, it has a strong moroccan antiquity base with a contemporary comfort. Amazing sheets, wonderful vibe, highest level of hospitality and customer service. Abdel & Jemima are the most lovely and engaging hosts one could ever hope for. The food is also excellent. The rooms are spacious. Fabulous modern bathrooms. We had a less than amazing time in Fes itself but Palais Amani made up for it with being a perfect respite from the craziness of Fes. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Fes. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: We stayed in Misriah 2 that has a private terrace. it was lovely.

The Palais Amani is a beautiful riad that relaxes you immediately when you enter.  The Fes medina bombards the senses, and it was wonderful to have a place to escape each evening.  Without a doubt, the Palais Amani lives up to the images on its website. The restoration of this riad was executed with a careful attention to detail and a true respect for the historic character of the building. But what makes the Palais Amani truly magical are the staff.  From the friendly gentleman who met us at the parking lot to walk us and our luggage to the riad, to the amazing front desk staff, to the restaurant and bar staff...every one greeted us with a smile and a genuine desire to help. And frankly, since this was our first visit to Fes, we needed a helpful hand. Advice, directions, arranging tours...the riad staff were always willing to help.

The included breakfast was very hearty, and really tasty. A wonderful variety for all tastes, served on an rooftop terrace. We also elected to eat dinner at the riad each evening, and it was truly inventive and amazing each evening. Multiple courses, served whenever we were ready for dinner.

Our room was stylish and comfortable, with all of amenities we could ask for. Every evening included a turn-down service that included a tasty chocolate or other morsel.

I cannot recommend the Palais Amani highly enough. I feel fortunate to have discovered them.

We started our Morocco holiday in Fes, so this was where we spent our first three nights. In typical riad style, the exterior makes you wonder if you've reached the wrong place, but then you enter and it's like you're transported to another world, ensconsed in calm luxury. This is a gorgeous riad with a beautifully landscaped and tiled courtyard, very friendly and helpful staff, and a good restaurant. (If you want a cheaper dining option very close, there is Zohra just a minute away.) We stayed in a standard room, which was a little small. The place is a two minute walk (with some steps) from the nearest spot where vehicles can reach. The only note of caution goes to travellers who feel nervous about men wanting to "help" you. There are many of them the moment you step out the door. We did not feel unsafe, but the unwanted attention can be a mood-spoiler. But this is probably a given if you stay within the old city – which is really the thing to do in Fes.
