“Great experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

I stayed at Riad Verus for three nights and had a wonderful experience. As noted by other guests, the rooms were really clean and the breakfast generous. The owners did a phenomenal job with the décor and atmosphere of the place. It was a pleasure to relax in such a beautiful common room, spend time in the hammocks on the terrace, etc. The staff went out of their way to make me comfortable, make sure I was having a good time, and I always felt very safe and well looked after. I also met some really interesting people here, and I honestly believe the hostel draws a great crowd. I would most definitely go back.

We are so pleased you had a wonderful experience here and would recommend us on, and in fact since you stayed you have sent people our way which is fabulous.
Pleased you found the Riad so clean and that breakfast was on the generous side and the atmosphere of the Riad rocks and you enjoyed the chilling aspect in the hammocks and that the staff went out of their way to make your time fun, always safe and very pleasant. Thanks for thinking that the Riad draws a great crowd, that's lovely to hear.

We stayed at the riad for 3 nights which was not long enough! The common area is beautiful and our room was great. We were lucky as we had payed for a 2 person room but for some reason were upgraded to the 5 person room next to the courtyard - so had plenty of space! We were worried about the noise as we were next to the courtyard but did not have any problems with it at all. All the staff are great especially Noor and are always willing to help you out with a anything. Free tea at all times (yum!) and breakfast is great which is included. Overall one of my favourite places I've stayed so far :)

We are so pleased you had such a great time at the Riad and that you felt 3 nights was not long enough here. We are pleased you liked your free upgrade, that noise was never an issue, that the breakfast and tea were both delicious and that you were treated so well by Noor and that the Riad Verus was your favorite place to stay so far.

Myself and 3 friends stayed here for 2 nights, in a 6 bed dorm. Being students we didn't mind sharing with 2 other girls, especially considering the 6 of us got our own bathroom with 2 showers, which was plenty.

We stayed in many riads whilst on our trip and for atmosphere this way by far our favourite. They were hosting many young travelers and it was good for us to share stories with like-minded individuals. Noor the owner was a very relaxed host and even set up drinks on the roof for us all one evening. To disagree with other reviews; the music was never loud (we came down from the roof early and even on the top floor we couldn't hear it in our room), so there must have been a policy change on the music since the negative reviews.

Fes is a very beautiful place I sincerely wish we had stayed there longer than what we did. The riad is beautifully finished, a real credit to Moroccan culture and architecture. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Towels and bed linen were provided and replaced when necessary. We also had cable TV the hostel was very much value for money.

Wifi was available all over the hostel which was great and the courtyard was a great place to chill in the middle of the day when temperatures peaked over 40 degrees C. (August 2013).

Only small complaints:
1. We had to pay a significant amount of "tax" on arrival, and while the staff insisted it was a legitimate tax, it was not something we had anticipated so I'd recommend reading the finer print carefully (if it is infact something we just missed).
2. We also had to give our passport numbers and bank details on check in, before seeing the rooms, which we complied with but were not immensely comfortable with. Other riads we had stayed with had not asked us for this. However my bank balance is totally fine and my details were kept safe.
3. I have read many a negative review on here and I have to point out a fair comment that this riad is definitely more suited to young groups, couples and solo travellers, rather than families. It has a massive social aspect.

To conclude we wish we stayed longer, we'd love to return, and take every negative review with a pinch of salt.

We are so pleased that you loved the Riad and that you liked the girls dorm with 2 showers inside the bathroom, the cable tv, great wifi, plentiful breakfast, linen and towels provided, architecture of the building and the staffs hospitality. Yes since prior reviews we have taken measures to limit noise at night, we are as you mention a very sociable place and our clientelle is more aimed towards the younger market, couples and solo travellers looking to meet other like minded souls. Having said that we also do appeal to families and have 2 rooms specially designed for families on lower levels and our newest room is almost like a self contained studio.

On check in in any hotel worldwide it is normal procedure to take passport details of all clients for Moroccan police authorities and to do an authorisation on a credit card to protect the hotel against potential damages or non payments, this is a security measure we take as do many places and we do this from having learnt our lessons from prior guests leaving the hotel with towels, not paying their mini bar bills or even on one occasion a tv. Your details are kept safe and destroyed upon a review at check out.

with regards taxation as a Riad we are listed under a tax bracket and this is a tourist tax that the client must assume, on all our websites we are listed on this is made clear under important information and as you noted, it was simply something you missed but acknowledged.

Thank you for having stayed with us and we are glad you had such a good time here.

At first it was a little difficult to locate, but once we knew the way it's actually very easy. Inside it's very pretty and there are great views from the roof terrace, where there are plenty of spaces to chill or chat. We arrived a day earlier than planned and they managed to fit us in even though it was pretty late at night. At the end of our stay we had to get the overnight train to Marrakech departing very late - they let us stay in the hotel until it was time to go so we would have somewhere safe to be. There is a distinct family atmosphere and guests are encouraged to get to know each other, while the staff and owner were always friendly and willing to help, whether taking us to somewhere good to eat or bringing us mint tea. Noise does carry a bit but this is to be expected with any riad - we found the area calm and quiet generally, and this was the only place we stayed in Morocco where I wasn't woken at 5am by the muezzin - bonus!!

The riad itself was adorable, and the rooms were comfortable and air-conditioned. but the Youssef was the highlight of our stay here! He was so friendly and accommodating and went out of his way to ensure we all enjoyed our stays and were safe when we ventured outside. Thank you!!

Loved the time all of us stayed here. Was invited to a shisha pipe by Nor on our first night. One of our friends got sick and they were kind enough to arrange for a doctor to come out in the middle of the night. Fes was probably our favorite destination in morocco and it was due to the kindness and hospitality the owners showed us.
