Description: An intimate dining experience in a beautiful setting, dinner at Dar Roumana's restaurant is a must-do for any visitor to Fes. Our talented French chef serves Mediterranean food with a Moroccan twist, and can be described as French/Moroccan 'fusion'. Changing daily, the dishes on the menu reflect the produce that's in season and bought fresh from the markets every day. Start with a drink on our roof terrace with spectacular views of the ancient medina of Fes, then dine in our courtyard restaurant. Decorated with colourful zellij tiling, carved cedar wood, a beautiful hand-painted bartal and intricate plaster, the restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful. In the winter, reserve a table for two next to our open fire, and in the summer be cooled by the splashing sound of the central fountain. Adding to the romantic setting is the attentive but discreet service. Allow us to transport you to a world of fine cuisine for the evening. We look forward to welcoming you to Dar Roumana. Reservations essential.

“Superb food, wine, and cocktails”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

We started off with some robust cocktails that got us into a very good mood early on in what is a very attractive setting. Unfortunately, despite being first into the restaurant, all the tables then appeared to have been taken. We were set up for dinner where we had our cocktails, near the fire. Whilst this was a charming and intimate place to have dinner, it would have been nice to have been asked whether this was okay by us, rather than simply placed there away from the other diners. However, any hint of disappointment was swept away by the beautiful flavours of perfectly cooked food, and a lovely glass of Le Petit Ferme. The meal was on a par with the great meals we have had in London and elsewhere in the world, and was a highlight of our trip to Morocco.

After the meal, a member of staff walked us back through the night streets to our Riad, whose owner had recommended Dar Roumana in the first place. All in all, an excellent night.

P.S. Make sure you go up to the roof terrace at some point to enjoy the view.

“We ate here twice, here's what we had--”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2014

We stayed here, and I can't tell you how lovely it was to step from our room to dinner and back, after climbing in the medina all day long. Husband had octopus appetizer and declared it the best he'd ever had. I had the fava/artichoke appetizer and the cheese souffle, both delicious. The firs night, we both had veal chops, a little tough but delicious. The second night, we both had the stuffed lamb, omg. Absolutely melt-in-your-mouth divine. The chef had let my husband watch him prepare it in the kitchen the day before, and it was just spectacular.
Do order Moroccan wines, they are excellent. We had Le Petit Ferme Rouge a couple of times, from the Meknes area, and it paired beautifully with the food. This same meal in the US would have cost four times the price, so no, this was NOT expensive.

“healthy tasty eating”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2014

All the meals were made with locally sustained products. We ate everything on the menu and kept going back for more. We did not want to eat anywhere else as we wanted to eat everything they had to offer. The cooking was superb and the service was always very friendly.

“Good place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2014

We were looking for some nice place to have dinner in Fes and ended up going to Dar Roumana.

Food was a bit pricey but good there although we expected more after reading all the TripAdvisor reviews. For the appetizers we had salad with pumpkin and tahini source and cheese soufflé. Nothing special I might say. For the main course we both ordered the same dish — veal chop which was very tasty. While staying in Morocco we paid extreme attention to food and avoided eating fresh salads, rinsed fruits and uncooked meat. However in this highly-praised restaurant we decided to be more adventurous — I ordered bien cuit meat and my husband — just medium or à point. We also enjoyed our delicious desserts at that restaurant: chocolate mouse with pear ice cream.

The service was very swift and friendly. They also walked us from the Mediana to the taxi so we don’t get lost in the labyrinth of the old city.

The overall experience was ok, however it was not a true Moroccan one. We felt like being in the States and eating dinner at one of our local restaurants.
