For being low budget category, but being centrally located right at the beginning of the Medina of Fes (Bab Boujelou), I would say this hostel is "okay", because the people working there are really friendly and you step out of your hostel and right into the cultural world heritage of the biggest preserved Medina of Morocco. Also the terrace and its views are amazing, the food of the restaurant is good and the prices are moderate, especially compared to the restaurants nearby.

On the other hand, it could definitely be cleaner, especially in the shared bathrooms (one toilet out of two was blocked for days which is not funny, even in lower season). Also the mattresses could be newer and a general renovation would be good for all the rooms.

Room Tip: Choose between noisy rooms at the front side with nice views and shady, but quiet rooms in the back.

location is simply perfect, practically next to bab boujeloud, an interesting section of the medina with lots of food; personnel is friendly, the bearded hotel manager is funny, you can sleep in open air on the roof top: a bit noisy and the sun will wake you up; a sufficient amount of clean blankets is provided to make it comfortable; excellent for solo travellers as you don't have to pay for 2 beds. toilet and bathroom are not super clean but they don't make you vomit either

Smelly toilets that are always blocked. No soap or toilet paper. Low standard of cleanliness. Sheets do not cover the bed.

I got sick here and threw up on the floor. I informed the staff immediately but no one came to clean it up for over an hour - until I pestered the staff. Other guests were walking through my vomit - it was revolting.

The staff member who came to clean the floor used water and a mop (no cleaning product) and asked me for some of my shampoo to clean the floor with!

No wonder I got sick here.

I have stayed many times and the cascade and love many things about the place. The staff are lovely, the rooms are clean and the beds are confortable. The bes thing about the hotel is the lovely roof terrace where you can have tea and meet other travellers or just relax in a social space that so many hotels lack. The terrace is also run by the lovely Rushdie, a great friendly man who is willing to give excellent advice on Fes. Also, it is worth pointing out that while spending over 3 months in the hotel in total, I have never experienced any theft from the rooms or any other problems with the staff.

However, despite all this the hotel has lost my business because of its awful management. It is the only hotel in Fes, and perhaps in Morocco, that allows 'false guides' to freely roam the hotel at all hours of the day and night attempting to rip tourists off, deal drugs and even be openly hostile and agressive. On many occasions I have had to assertively ask them to leave us alone. One night one even knocked on our door late at night for no apparent reason, which makes you feel insecure in an otherwise secure hotel. Added to this, if any of the other guests decide to make noise in their room, by sitting up all night drinking as they tend to, you will receive no help from the night staff who are unwilling to ensure you get a good nights sleep.

In short, this old hotel is a place where drinking and drugs are tolerated which means that you are unlikely to get a good nights sleep.

If you look for a nice friendly hotel, in the middle of the Medina of Fés with nice food available and nice price. Full of packpackers and people who do not want to pay for sleeping. Not for pensioners and otehr middleaaged peaceloving humans. With lots of life and noice :)

Room Tip: If you need sleeping, check the time and room direction when you visit as the sound of the mosques i...

Located just next to the medina this hotel offers very simple rooms with big bed and mirror only. It seems it has not been renovated for a long time. The bedlinen was clean but you could notice a lot of spiderwebs in the corners. The bathroom located outside very basic, when taking shower passersby could see your head and feet as the doors were made in Morrocan style. Good breakfast though the restaurant was quite neglected in design.

Room Tip: Take a room not facing minaret if you do not like being woken up early in the morning..

This no-frills hotel is very basic, probably the best what you can get for that price in Fez. Rooms are very simple, they weren't dirty, but they just beg for some renovation.
If you don't want to be woken up around 4 o'clock, try to avoid rooms facing minarets.
