This hotel is perfect for the traveler who doesn't want to leave their room to go to a night club! Beginning at 11:00 p.m. and lasting until nearly 4 in the morning hotel guests are treated to the heart pounding rhythms and micro-tonal warbling of the loudest music Morocco has to offer! Wow what an experience! If like me you tire of this at about 2:00 a.m/ the staff will gladly lie and tell the music is "finished"! Then when you ask for another room you may be shown a room that is above (instead of next door to) the club. Oh to be so lucky!

At least the folks in the room next door found a way to pass the time. Their headboard was banging against the wall for a good 30 minutes or so during the "concert".

Oh, and if you book on hotels.com and pay in full in advance, you will still be charged another $40 upon your arrival. "Fees" they will tell you.

Soooo if you want to be ripped off by rude, incompetent staff and not get even an hour of sleep before your flight home. The hotel Transatlantique is the place for you!

Hotel Transatlantique is a very sad reflection of it's former magnificent glory. It was built in 1922, and I imagine it was fantastic then. You can still see the traces of the original art deco design in the lobby and the restaurant area, and the outside seating has beautiful traditional ceiling carvings.

Sadly, that's all there is to it. I doubt it has ever been remodeled or updated or vacuumed since 1922.
I stayed in room 215 (2nd floor, above the nightclub, noisy). Here are the highlights:
- half the lights in the room didn't work - switches did nothing
- drapes were extremely dusty and had not been cleaned in decades. My wife is sensitive to dust, so she immediately had an allergic reaction. Same for dusty bed covers and blankets
- none of the "decorations" in the room - coffee table, etc, were cleaned. very dusty
- there was an undeniable stank of "oldness" in the room. or maybe dampness. or tears of previous travelers who realized they wasted their money
- general lousy upkeep: the cabinet for the mini-fridge wouldn't close, everything is crooked - mirrors, lamps, bathroom door didn't really close well, etc
- bathroom was rather dirty - possibly traces someone's blood caked on the side of the sink
- towels were ancient and sad looking. i think i had better towels in college as a grad student
- breakfast: arguably, worst breakfast ever. Much-cheaper riads in Morocco had significantly better and more interesting breakfast. Crusty bread rolls and jam works in England (sorry England) but not anywhere else.... Other guests were very confused looking at the breakfast buffet, trying to find the "food" part of it...

Overall., Transatlantique is a phenomenally poor value for the $105 they charge for the double (900 dirham in Oct 2010). It's still rated 4 stars, but they must've kept it from 1922 and never had a re-grade.
The saddest part was that the staff and the bellhop acted like they were doing you a favor letting you stay in the hotel....

You are much better off staying at Hotel Amoud (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293732-d1813029-Reviews-Hotel_Amoud-Casablanca.html) 1 block away for half the price; and coming to Transatlantique as part of the walking tour. If i had stayed for more than 1 night, i would absolutely switch hotels.

Got a deal for an overnight in Casablanca on Expedia for 46€. Was not worth a penny more..!! On the plus side, big rooms, but on the minus, seemed a bit grimy, with no soap in the bathrooms, and a very poor offering for breakfast (powder orange juice in the home of freshly squeezed..!)

Only stay if you get a good deal - location is pretty good, and you could do worse (we stayed in Hotel Central too in Casa - terrible!!)

Old, dirty and decadent. Breakfast is threatened with gastric lavage... And it's not so cheap!
Simply: stay away!

But it's all in your perspective, so here's mine: I am a late-twenties, middle class working man. I do not frequent luxury hotels, nor do I sleep in stairwells while backpacking across Europe (anymore).

With that being said, this hotel is comfortably average. We paid about $85/night (600 MAD) for a double room, and it provided what we needed from it: clean sheets, clean shower, and hot water. Is the room a little dingy? Yah. Is the breakfast tiny? Yup. (A couple pastries). Are the staff going to bend over backwards for you? Nope. But it did the trick.

A nightclub is indeed built into the hotel, but for us in room 107, we didn't hear a thing. And as many reviewers have pointed out, the entrance and initial decor is really quite cool. Location is pretty prime: walking distance to Old Medina. However it is quite hard to hail a cab. Be prepared for up to 20 minutes of wandering up and down the streets until you finally find an empty petit taxt.

The foyer is quite charming, a bit like something out of an Arabian Nights movie, but there the charm definitely ends. The staff member on hand looked as us disdainfully when we arrived. We said "hi." He said "passports." When we enquired afterwards as to when our passports would be returned we were told "later." The room was ok but the bathroom was decrepit, dirty and the shower rose fell off as soon as I turned on the water. We had very little sleep - the nightclubs nearby were doing a roaring trade. All encounters with staff were negative - they were just so monosyllabic and rude, despite our initial efforts to engage. Think they prefer the big bus tours really. A very negative experience, especially since it was our last day in Morocco. Hope this helps.

Only stay here if you're on a budget and you don't want down-time between activities. The main decor and setting are like something out of an old movie and what might come to mind when you think of Casablanca, but the great old style ends when you leave the first floor. Our room was uncomfortably furnished with shabby, dingy linens, and the bathroom seemed dirty, but that might have been the age of the facilities showing. There's no safe in the room, but there's a mini-fridge with no menu listing prices for drinks and snacks (which are ridiculous when it comes time to pay the bill). There is a computer with internet available for guests which creaks along. I recommend skipping the restaurant altogether. Lastly, hotel employees are slow to respond and must be prodded into being helpful. I've stayed in cleaner, more inviting hostels.
