The Medina was probably the worst aspect of Casablanca. It was filthy, even by third world standard. All the other Medina in Morocco were interesting and special and had a charm which I was expecting in Casablanca.but did not get

Loved the atmosphere and hussel and bussel of the market. Great photo opportunities. Casablanca is dirty with rubbish everywhere, though that's part of travelling

We visited the old medina fairly early (for Moroccans) and found the experience very good. We were able to stand around the local produce section and watch locals prepare and buy vegetables, seafood and snails. We appeared to be the only foreigners there and we never felt that we were different or in the way. Definitely no Marrakech medina, but well worth the visit.

This medina (old city) is well worth a visit and it will give you a real incite to how different the cultures are in Morocco. prepare yourself for lots of haggling and you will find it almost impossible to come out of there without buying something.

There is good value to be had here, but you will have to work for it as bargains can be purchased if you are willing to give it time and they have all the time in the world.

old medina is a remnant of ancient casablanca, with typical bazaars and narrow allyes. its a good place to move around and see the cultural as well as archtectural heritage. but its far dangerous to the extent of risking ones life to walk in these deserted alleys once darkness fall and activies fade. i was putting up at an old traditional hotel named Central in the western / port side of old medina and it usually took 10 minutes to walk from place des nations unies, which had hyatt regency, the central tram station, cafe de france and all center ville! despite the short distance and full daylight lumination of the streets, I got mugged by four young men after midnight while returning to my hotel, who fell upon like cheetahs out of nowhere and instanly emmptied my pockets, even frisked my socks and under garments to look for something valuable & hidden! they were not armed but still the incident was terrible enough to remember. once they let me go after getting 90 MAD from my wallet ( which they returned empty ) and I reached the hotel which was on a three minute walk, I told the manager about the incident, who was sympathetic but didnt agree to my idea of reporting this incident to the (tourism) police, which had a post nearby, fearing wastage of time and no results.
