It is truly a fun place to visit during the day. the Medina has true character. Just be prepared for all the vendors to get you to buy! They are all very friendly

Old medina of casablanca, you can find lots of shops and peddlers there.

Note that the lanes can be pretty narrow, and the lanes are made of small pebbles making walking difficult.

There are no road signs and the roads are winding with lots of interchanges, so it is easy to get lost.

This place is worth a visit and it will take you back in time......

There are some very intereting houses in the old Medina, for example the house where Rambam supposedly lived. But it is so dirty ... I would definitely not recommend to go there too late at night or to stay there at a hotel.

The Old Medina of Casablanca was the first zouk I ever visit. I expected greatness, many tiny artisans shops and a huge variety of offers (I think anyone who visits a zouk expects something like that). Well, instead, I found some shops (with nice wooden handcraft boxes and games, like chess, backgamon, etc), some that sold tiny cute souvenirs and handicrafts, a couple of typical shirts and some "yiyas" (typical marocan nargile) shop, but all in all, it wasn't so great. Many shops sold only second hand items and fake bags, scarfs and luggage.
I was a bit disappointed by the amount of shops, but it was quite fun to bargain with the locals in french and them speaking part arabic... It has been fun, but once in a lifetime is enough for the Old Medina.
