I had 3 days in the Hotel. It was ok but a long way short of the Relais and Chateaux standard we saw elsewhere in Morocco. Lots of staff everywhere, but I am unsure what they did. The manager on Day 1 told me there was very little to do in Casablanca - which is not what I expected to hear from the front desk of a city hotel. He said the meagre city plan they handed me was all they had, and really showed all there was to see in town, which was very wrong - but I had to work that out myself, with the help of a plan I was given in another hotel.
Once something was used in your room, that was it. In 3 days, water bottles were not replaced (in a country where they recommend you don't drink from the tap). 2 calls to the front desk and they delivered another 250 ml bottle. Beverages and snacks from the mini bar were not replaced each day - maybe there was a limit on how many peanuts and beer each customer was allowed per stay. There was beer in the mini bar, but there was no bottle opener in the room to open them.
I asked the night manager one day to please find me a local hammam (like a turkish bath house)so I could taste the true Moroccan experience (rather than the clinical spa on offer in the hotel). He knew of none and said he would make enquiries, but in the next 2 days heard nothing more from him. He seemed preoccupied playing card games on the reception computer. My driver to the airport said he knew of 5 hammams in the area of The Doge.
Breakfast was good the first day, exactly the same the second (down to the same plate of cold cuts and cooked sausages), and exactly the same again the third. I guess they expect in a city they profess has nothing to offer tourists, no one will stay more than one day, so no need for any variation.
I sound like a whinger, but The Doge compared very poorly to the 3 fantastic hotels we stayed at in other cities in Morocco, Villa des Orangers (Marrakesh) and Sofitel Palais Jamai (Fes) and Madada Mogador (Essaouira).
