Acting on the recommendations of some American residents of Casablanca whom we met in Fes, we ate at Al-Mounia on our first night in this cosmopolitan (albeit somewhat down-at-its-heels) city. We were not disappointed. The food was some of the best we had in all of Morocco, and the selection was better than most. The ambiance is charming as well. You may dine indoors relaxing on plush, Moroccan-style divans. Or, if the season and weather permits, you can choose to eat outdoors in the charming old terrace under the spreading branches of an ancient tree. (Unfortunately it was too dark and chilly for us to eat outside on our visit in late October.) The prices are quite reasonable, considering the quality of the food. Best of all, the service was some of the friendliest and most efficient we experienced in Morocco. Although the place is a bit hard to find down a side street in somewhat seedy downtown Casablanca, it is well worth the effort.
