“This is not a hotel for a demanding clientele”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2011

We returned a week ago with this hotel. The only advantage is its excellent location, close proximity to the ocean, as well as the impressive lobby, the rest leaves much to be desired: dirty rooms, requiring repairs, flaking paint, broken furniture, balconies, in a deplorable condition, wrought by the birds, cleaning ladies do not react to it, but willing to take a tip, I just do not attach. Service at reception very rude, just looking for profits. As we wanted to pay more for staying for a few hours in the room, because the day is to 12.00, and the flight we were late at night, everyone at the reception gave a different price and getting higher. The restaurant generally unkind round-up-waiters, food monotonous, regularly repeated, not once during the stay was not, np.owoców sea. The rooms themselves could correspond to three stars. This is not a hotel for a demanding clientele.

We spent one night at this hotel after a very positive experience with the Atlas hotel in Essaouira. This was something completely different, however - twice the price for one tenth of the value.

Staff/service: Unfriendly, bordering on hostile. Not a single smile during the entire stay from the staff, which consists mostly of grumpy, old men. If you have problems understanding mumbling in French, expect to be yelled at and treated like an idiot. One reception employee communicated exclusively in grunts. When being shown to the room, the porter shoved us into an elevator without informing us which floor on which to exit. We were twice directed to rooms that turned out to be occupied by other guests. No attempts at apologies were made. The contrast to the cheerful professionalism we met in Essaouira could not have been greater.

Cleanliness: Cigarette butts on floors and overfilled ashtrays everywhere. The rooms reeked of old cigarette smoke, dusty, with dirty floors and bathrooms. Unidentifiable brown stains on linen. Only one out of three light bulbs functioning.

Noise: We spent New Year's Eve there - which is never easy when travelling with children in this part of the world - and can't really complain about the massive noise which lasted until 2AM. It could be argued that we were looking for trouble. But reading other reviews at this site, it seems that this is a recurring problem at the hotel. The way it is constructed, with a stage in the centre of an amphi-like construction and nightly live "entertainment", is not conducive to a good night's sleep.

Wi-fi only available in reception area.

On a positive note, the location of the hotel is good, and we guess the view from the rooms facing the sea is pretty nice (we were given a room overlooking the parking lot). The other guests, mostly elderly people, seemed to be enjoying themselves. The breakfast was edible.

Overall - a faded, charmless and smelly place which we would not recommend to anyone.

We moved to this hotel after staying at the Ryad mogador (Al Madina Palace) and finding cockroaches!!! Reception staff were great and found us a room quickly and we stayed on a BB basis. The room was good and had a balcony right over the beach but the hotel was noisy due to the bar; we stayed on Friday and Saturday night so am not sure if it just these nights that are loud - we were close to the bar also.
I would describe this hotel as a village, it has a private beach, large swimming pool, fitness centre, several shops, several restaurants and bars and a nightclub. It seemed most people were on a FB basis and did not leave the hotel.
It's about a 20 minute stroll to the main stretch in Agadir but there are no shortages of taxis outside - prices do vary rapidly however.
Breakfast here was a mix of fruit, bread, cold meats and cheeses, red sausages, beans and eggs, crepes and Moroccan pancakes. Lots of drinks were included at breakfast but it does get very busy and crowded.
The location for just chilling out on the beach as it is literally on the beach and if you don't want hassle and just to relax then it will be great.

I stayed in this hotel for 1 week and would not recommend it. I was half board and by day two both myself and my friend had food poisoning. The worst I have ever had. So we were not going out at night but could not sleep as the music in the bar could be heard all over the hotel . Our room was on the other side from the bar and it was like we were in the middle of it.
The staff was not very friendly.
The only thing I liked about this hotel is it is on a great beach.

I spent 1 week at the Atlas Amadil Beach Hotel in Agadir.

Below I will list the Pros and Cons of this hotel:

Pros: Double bedroom was ok with dark wooden furniture (large comfortable bed with good mattress, table-seat combi, desk plus tv set, wardrobe and suitcase bench), balcony (table plus 2 chairs), bathroom (modern und relatively large), tv with Arabian, French and German tv-channels. All the staff were friendly. The hotel has a small private beach which is good as sunbathing there protects you from being continuously approached by guys chatting you up and trying to sell stuff like jewellery, t-shirts etc.

Cons: The Amadil Beach has a large marble lobby which is the centre of everything that happens at the hotel. The night bar with a stage for performances as well as the restaurants and the cafes are either directly in this lobby or open right into it.

Access to the beach bar, the spa, the pool, the gym, some shops, the tour operator corner etc is also via this lobby. Therefore, there is a permanent coming and going of people and music (pseudo rock n roll, latino pop, drippy 1950s love songs) fill this enormous hall with its great echo-effects from early morning to midnight without interruption. There is also a night club at the Amadil Beach which I suspect is open to the public (when we returned at 21.30 from a tour I saw a number of young people dolled-up disco-style, neither carrying rucksacks, shopping bags nor luggage entering the hotel lobby through the front door. They did not look like tourists to me.

The hotel lobby is designed like an atrium (or patio) with the hotel rooms facing the lobby or being situated in short corridors that also open into it . This "airy" construction makes the noise get to all hotel rooms that face the lobby and also to those that are situated in the front part of the corridors.

At check in I wasn t aware of the fact that a life band would be playing in the lobby every night until midnight. (I spotted instruments that were permanently placed on the stage in front of the bar during daytime, among them an electric guitar, so you get the picture..).

Sleeping, even with ear plugs was impossible, actually lying in bed felt like standing in the middle of a disco dance floor. Great if you need your 7 hours of sleep before going on an exhausting sightseeing-tour the next day - the Marrakech-tour started at 6, the Essaouira-tour at 7 in the morning and they ended at. 9.30 in the evening.

Fortunately it was only a 1week holiday, under no circumstances would I have stayed another week at this hotel. I don t mind a hotel entertaining guests with loud music at night (life band or otherwise) but this should take place in a separate night club or disco instead of the hotel lobby and without recklessly robbing guests of their sleep.

As for the food, we had breakfast and dinner at the hotel. The food catered to European tastes with an Arabian touch (tajine, couscous etc.) and was of average quality. We also had meals at the beach bar and paid 45 dirham (ca. 4,50 euro) for a salad of poor quality.

The Amadil Beach is far from the city centre, it takes about half an hour to get there. Red cabs are available on the main street in front of the hotel (my friend paid 30 dirham to get to the souk).

The hotel doesn t allow guests to bring food to the hotel but their own small shop has little to offer and is also very expensive. I paid 70 Dirham (ca. 7 Euro) for 2 one litre bottles of mineral water and 25 Dirham (ca. 2,50 Euro) for a bag of potato chips.

Would I return? No way.

This hotel had impressive public areas, but the bedroom & general standard of house-keeping left much to be desired. It was definitely more than fortuitous that we always travel prepared for the worst when visiting the facilities in Africa, but it should not be an issue in a 4-star hotel. Incidentally, travellers to Morocco should be aware that this hotel, along with many others, & even some banks, will no longer change travellers' cheques.
On a much more positive note, there are plenty of nice cafes near-by, the weather was great & the trip to the Anti Atlas Mountains not to be missed.
