“Charming but not a 5 Star Luxury”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

The hotel grounds are nice and very well kept. Common areas design is characterful. Rooms are small (but that's the Sofitel for you), a bit dated style wise (and surprisingly for a beach hotel with no outdoor space) but clean, nicely kept and charming. Service is attentive and professional. Major downside is the pool toilets which are literally filthy, rotten, dark and infested with insects (from some rather aggressive flies to cockroaches). I found the state of the toilets very disappointing particularly as the pool grounds are lovely and you spend there most of your time. It is a real shame as the hotel overall is pleasant and a lot more charming than the nearby Sofitel Thalassa and SpA.

We recently spent 5 nights at the Sofitel Agadir Royal Bay Resort, and I do not have a single complaint! It was a wonderful holiday. The hotel was excellent, great location, and a good value for the price. My daughter said this was the best vacation ever, with the staff very attentive to our needs and practically anticipating what we needed. They truly understand that if a child is happy, the parents are happy. We really enjoyed the heated pool as we were able to stay outside all day and play, before going to the beach and building sand castles! The breakfast had a very large and diverse selection. However, the dinners (both buffet and restaurant) were amazing, with unbelievable desserts! We are already looking forward to our trip back!

We have just come back from a wonderful week at the Royal Bay Resort. We were made to feel like Royalty. We arrive late afternoon tired from a delayed plane trip - a got a little lost on route to the hotel. This was forgotten in seconds. We were made to sit down in the "square" a wonderful seating area in the centre on the hotel, they brought us a wonderful tea, and biscuits and the check-in was handled on our behalf, when this was done we went of to our room and the luggage had already arrive. We were not any special VIP's but were treated like VIP's - on our bed was a gorgeous big heart in Roses, fruit and biscuits in the room. It never stopped, the special treatment - all their guests are treated this way. The staff here have to be the best I have ever experienced and we have travelled to many hotels (5 star) all over the world. From the cleaning lady Mbarka, to the Restaurant Staff and Manager, Tarek, Hassim, Omar (x2), Mohammed gosh can not name them all - I can not complain about a single staff member, the housekeeping IT spent hours with my daughter sorting out IT issues - Internet might be a slight complaint a little slow. Nothing is too much effort here, breakfast could be a little more international - but if they don't have it they will find it or make it .... thats a promise ..... Well done Sofitel Agadir - Fantastic week Tarek great french lessons !!!!!! will highly recommend x The beds to die for great linen and great comfort x

Me and my partner visited Sofitel Agadir and Sofitel Marrakech twice last year and are planning the same this year. The actual hotel and furnishings are superb as are the vast majority of staff.

After experiencing an AMAZING week in sofitel marrakech we transferred for another week in Agadir with extremely high hopes however we were dissapointed with our classic room which unfortunately had no outdoor space (like most of the rooms there) and also an unappealing view of a wall about 2 meters from the window. We quickly decided we wanted to pay for an upgrade which was steep (£400) but felt it was necessary. After a long day of being informed the hotel was fully booked (which was not the case as rooms were bookable still online) we were shown another room with a pool view (very nice) but as I had the typical travellers sickness and knew I would be not well enough to go out to sit by the pool for a few days I was desperate to get some outdoor space with the room so was then shown a garden room which was perfect. However shortly after moving our suitcases, my partner was called back to reception where Karim, the assistant manager who was SO very helpful, informed him that the room was actually booked for someone else therefore we were offered our money back plus a room with a balcony albeit we did have to wait a little longer but it was AMAZING and certainly made my first few days in agadir bearable! We were so thankful for Karim's help as the previous member of staff was not quite as friendly, she had infact told me that rooms with balconies did not exist in Sofitel Agadir!!

The only other negative during our first stay last july was that when I was ill and couldnt make it down to breakfast for a few mornings, the staff wouldnt let my partner bring any toast back up to our room for me which seems a little silly but they did suggest in room breakfast service which has a £3 room service charge - and for 1 bit of toast this wasnt ideal!

Regardless of the early disruption to our stay at Sofitel Agadir, we had a fantastic holiday, the pool is amazing and there is never a shortage of beautiful sun loungers by the pool or on the private beach.

When I was well enough to venture to breakfast, it is lovely. You are always offered teas as you sit down which are brought over to you in individual morrocan tea pots, the selection of food is huge and the pancake and egg bar is fantastic!

During our stay we ate at all the restaurants and all of them are fantastic! No complaints!

We did a number of trips whilst there including horse riding (wouldnt recommend the place we went as we had no helmets, was escorted on the trek by two VERY young children where my horse which was later described to me as 'crazy' threw me off -luckily I was fine and have fallen off a few horses previously however my partner practically leaped off his horse the moment he saw me fall and refused to get back on the rest of the trek!! :)

The fishing trip was brilliant and had hours of fun catching mackerel which was later cooked for us by the chef onboard!

The fantasia night that can be booked through the hotel is a great evening out with acrobats, belly dancers, fire throwers, horses, snake charmers and lovely food!

We went back to Sofitel Agadir in November with my sister-in-law last year because we knew how lovely the rooms and hotel are however were dissapointed yet again- not exactly with the room but with the electronic lock on the door! The first time we had a problem was during the day where our keycard would not work with the door, neither would a new one or the cleaners master key. Therefore we had to wait around for about an hour for a technician to come and fiddle about and open the door. Although this was annoying it wasnt a huge problem.... until... it happened again. We were returning to the hotel at about 1am from visiting family when we again could not enter our room. The same procedure happened again however it took at least an hour for the technician to even arrive which in the meantime staff members had entered the room next door to try and get through the window to unlock it from the inside, this was unsuccessful. We called for the manager to see what was going on only to be told that all they could offer us was a room to wait in until it was fixed which in most cases would have been fine but with a morning flight and nothing packed this gesture was extremely frustrating as we really needed to get our stuff packed before going to sleep, all we wanted to do was get in our room which is not an unreasonable request considering we were paying almost £200 a night for it! It really did take around 2 hours before we got in to our room as apparently the technical equipment is not kept on site however i politely suggested to the staff that for such a huge chain of hotels that this investment could be wise as this definitely almost ruined our second stay! The staff did the best they could however and waited with us until the problem was resolved and waited around for us in the morning in the lobby to apologise again where we were offered a consolation of the gift shop at our disposal - although we were in a rush and definitely did not take full advantage of this!!

To be fair, I think we have just been unlucky and probably slightly fussy in terms of the rooms but with plans to visit the hotel another two times this year, it should speak volumes that everything else about this hotel is genuinely fantastic and I will never stay anywhere other then Sofitel Agadir when we visit family, even though they do insist on staying with them for free which would certainly save us a few hundred of pounds!

EVERYONE SHOULD DEFINITELY STAY AT SOFITEL MARRAKECH ALSO WHICH IS EVEN MORE AMAZING THEN SOFITEL AGADIR.

Room Tip: If your planning to stay around the hotel most of the time I would definitely book a pool view, balc...

Stayed at this hotel in 2006. The room was great and stepped out onto the pool area. Pool area was gorgeous, lovely four poster sun loungers, hammocks and comfy sun beds!
Great nightclub underneath the hotel where you can enjoy the local foods and shisha! :)
Nice comfy dressing gown and slippers in our room.
Had a really pleasant stay!
Taxi very sheap into main town.

From the moment you arrive, you feel like royalty, with very friendly and attentive staff throughout. Being able to speak a little French goes a long way as the English spoken by the staff is variable but overall we had no real problems with Franglais. Special mention to Amine working the pool area who was very helpful and fun to chat to. We ate in the buffet restaurant once on the first night and weren't disappointed by the selection and quality of food on offer. The breakfast options catered for pretty much what anyone could possibly want, served with a smile and lovely outdoor gardens with the morning sun. The central lobby area is beautiful, especially during the day when the roof is open and in the evenings with the fire lighting ceremony. The outside spaces are similarly magnificent but a shame the large pool is utterly freezing! Didn't stop me from going in though. The smaller toddler pool was heated and perfectly usable even when full of kids. The only disappointment with our stay was the 130-odd Red Bull France staff who arrived mid-week spoiling the sense of having the place to ourselves previously and block-booking areas of the hotel out for dinner events etc which were then off-limits to other guests. The food and drinks were expensive compared to what you could get in town but to be expected from a 5-star hotel. Can only recommend the hotel to everyone, we weren't disappointed and am sure you won't be either!
