“Not that bad”
Reviewed April 15, 2012

If you like small, slighly out of the way then this Hotel is for you. We got back 4th April 2012, we spent a week there. The photographs that are on here are very true. But we did just our breakfast and then had Lunch and Dinner out. The Beach is just across the road, The Supermarket is a Taxi ride away 5 minutes. The taxis are something in themselves, they charge what they like, always ask if there meter is working, if not, send them on there way. It cost 7Dh to go to the supermarket and 50Dh coming back, we where not happy. Do not eat at the fishing port. It's amazing to look at, but we had one platter of fish between four of us and they tried to charge us £1200Dh. Absolute joke. The bartering is fun, if you like that sort of thing, but the things they shouldn't barter on, they tried to rip us off. Which spoilt it for us. Around the swimming pool is a real sun trap, fabulous. There was a bit of noise from the building work next door, it didn't really spoil it though. The swimming pool is cold, but it didn't stop my two kids from enjoying it. Outside the front of the hotel is a 4x4 and a gentleman selling excursions he is wonderful (called Jamal) go on the mini Sahara trip it's great fun. We thought the beach was a little dirty, the private ones are OK, the rest of it needs sorting, always wear sandles, there is glass. The coast is beautiful, the restaurants are all very similar in price down the front. But there is a Macdonalds if you have kids, great for midday. The hotel pizza's are nice, the hotel supermarket is mega expensive, has what you need though, when you first get there.

Room Tip: Never settle on the first choice if your not happy, I tried 4 different rooms, before being given t...

We were given a room on the side, facing the new building next door (under construction at that time), so we had kind of no view except the walls of the building. Room was pretty ok size, with separate bedroom and a normal sized bathroom.

Cleaning was good the whole stay for 14 days, and service from the hotel was quite ok. We had some problems with our door opening all by itself (because of draft), so they fixed that within hours. My parents who had a different room, had a window which was impossible to lock, and they fixed that also the same day.

Location is ok, just a few houndred meters away from the beach, but a bit far from the main restaurants, 15-20 minutes walk away. There are shops and other restaurants nearby, and a small supermarket in the hotel, with decent prices too.

The hotel has a lot of help for sightseeing and tours, and it was booked with ease.
The pool outside was quite nice, with good service, clean pool and a nice area.

All in all an ok hotel for the price.

Room Tip: Ask for a room either facing front towards beach for sunset and sunrise view, or a rear facing room...

Room allocated overlooking pool, spent one very noisy night then asked to be moved to quieter side of hotel. Had to be really persistant. The pneumatic drill being used on the building site next door was unbearable. The workers on site can look down on the pool area as the building site is a couple of metres from the hotel boundry wall. The drone of mechanical excavation equipment went on spasmodically during the day.
The pool music was so loud I had to wear earplugs to drown it out. I asked the pool attendant to turn it down, I think he may have been trying to cover the noise of the site next door. Service around the pool area was non exisistant, no towels on two occaisions and one attendant was very surly. The sun loungers are filthy and never saw the patios washed down once in 10 days.
None of the room safes were working in the hotel according to reception staff. The management left a note advising guests to not to leave valuables unguarded in rooms and advised the use of room safe!
Overall the rooms need a very good "deep steam" clean as they are very grubby. The bed linen smelt of stale body odour. The drains in the bathroom stank.
The balcony furniture was grubby and neede a good scrub.
The cleaning staff were very pleasant and helpful and did their best with the equipment and time that they were given to service the rooms.
The restaurant was clean and staff very pleasant and professional. The few meals we ate there were very good quality, beautifully presented and very good value.
The Golden Beach was a lovely hotel that has been run down and neglected due to lack of maintenance. A thorough clean and redecoration throughout could bring it back to its former glory. As it is at the moment particulary with the active building site next door, avoid at all cost.

Room Tip: If you do decide to go here stay in the rooms overlooking the scrub land with trees to the right of...

This place exceeded our expectations. We had a room on the top floor, facing the trees with a view of the sea. It was quiet, clean, with a basic but functional kitchen, comfortable living room and balcony.
The staff were on the whole friendly and polite at all times.
Room service was efficient although a basic command of French helps, as with the rest of Agadir.

We thought this hotel was great value for money. It was pretty close to the beach (although a bit of a walk to the main restaurant area). Downsides - you had to pay to use the safe (which I think is cheeky), and whilst we there there was some building going on opposite which was a bit noisy in the day. It is very basic but quite large apartments, including a kitchen and a nice bathroom. Air con worked well, and we had a TV and sofa area plus a small balcony. All in all, great value.

We were very disapppointed as in our opinion this hotel was not up to standard. Kitchen facilities very old and hotplate was rusty. Taps dripped and show was virtually useless. No one on reception could speak English and we found it extremely hard to converse. Blankets and bedspead very in very poor condition. Heater did not work properly and lighting was dreadful.

Room Tip: Certainly away from construction

We had the unfortunate experiance of having to stay here for 2 weeks.. Where do we start?
Location.. What a joke... the small shop attached is extorionatly priced as you are captive, no other shops for miles. As is any other place you may wish to go. to walk you hve a very boring half hour walk to the main tourist area, or a taxi ride than could cost £1.50, or £6 depending on who you get.. and when you get to the tourist area there is nothing to do exept cafes and restuarants.... We tried many tours, but to be honest they are a waste of money.
The rooms at first seem ok, but on closer inspection they are really very dirty, we had an ant infestation, and we had cockroaches in the bathroom and the only thing they tried was to put an open jar of honey outside the door!!! The shoower leaked gallons of water over the floor every time it was used, The kitchen facilities were also very poor, I have carried better facilities in a rucksack for camping.
The hotel pool is a joke, the water was so cold that it remained empty for the whole time we were there, apparently, talking to the pool boy, it was too expensive to heat. No pool towels are supplied, The loungers are so worn it is better to lay on the floor.,and the only service is via a phone, which may or may not get answered. THE IS NO ALCOHOL here. The cleaning staff are polite enough, but the admin staff are appaling with little or no english spoken, and aparently no interest in helping. Friends of ours were staying at another complex around 2 niles away, and when we tried to bring them back to our apartment one afternoon all hell broke loose, apparently this is forbidden... WHAT???

Basically this has been 2 weeks in hell, without doubt the worst xmas holiday we have ever had... By far.

Room Tip: do not stay here.. !!!
