“Pets allowed!”
Reviewed October 6, 2010

Beware-pets are allowed! I wasn't aware of this until we arrived at the hotel and heard the sound of 2 barking dogs in the room next door. The next sound we heard was the dogs owner yelling profanities at her dogs to stop barking. The walls are very thin. The rooms looked clean and smelled fine but just the thought of dogs running around the room didn't sit well with me. The location is great and there's a nice restaurant next to the hotel. The indoor and outdoor pools are nice for young children, my kids were a little too old to have much fun with them (10 and 12). The outdoor pool is only 3 feet deep. The only reason we stayed at this hotel was because our rooms were reserved for a wedding. I was unimpressed with the staff, they were very young and not very friendly.

We recently stayed for a wedding. They staffed 1 desk person the entire time. During my stay, each question asked was responded to with an "I don't know".

Seems to me, you have a wedding coming in, you'd staff up and provide someone who is knowledgeable AND friendly to help out of town guests. Not to mention the inability to check-in late, or check-out early.

And multiple issues with the bill, met with eye-rolling.

Walls are paper thin so be ready to hear everything.

So disappointing.

Awful. Stayed here for a wedding (which was great!) but the hotel was TERRIBLE!! The check-out staff was surly and apparently were closing right as we got there, which wasn't told to use prior. If we had been a half hour later, we would have had to drive all the way to their other resort to check in at midnight. What!!

Paint is peeling, stuff is falling apart even though it's only a year old. The second day the hot water was out. Any time I tried to call the front desk, no one would answer. When I'd walk up, there would be at least 3 or 4 people standing there, ignoring the phone. I explained repeatedly after waiting for over an hour and half that I had to shower for the wedding, after being left to wait several times they finally said it would be at least another hour before the repair person was going to come. I ended up showering in the "water park" showers, which had mold on the ceiling.

The staff was mildly accommodating, promising to discount us about $30 a day for the two nights. So we still paid over $70 with the wedding rate, for no hot water, and subpar service. Then when I went to check out... they tried to only give us the discount for one day.

Check your receipt! There are no snack vending machines so bring your own snacks! Wireless is free but spotty. NO free breakfast. The water park area is dirty and crowded with noisy kids. Most of all... STAY AWAY!!

What a disappointment this hotel/resort was in all categories. We booked a three bedroom condo which was located on the first floor. The only entrance open after midnight was next to one of the bedrooms. The door would slam constantly all night long with the bar patrons coming in and out. If they couldn't get their card key to work, they would slam their fists on the door incessantly. Management was never available to take care of the situation. It is unheard of to me that there is no one on-site to take care of issues after midnight. We spent four nights of which three were with less than 4 hours of sleep. The units were not cleaned well and on day three we had to take out our own trash (management was kind enough to tell us where the dumpster was located). When we tried to check-out on Monday, Sept. 6th, no one was available at the desk until after 8:00 am. We were told to go to another resort to check-out. The beds were uncomfortable and the bedding was worn and smelly. The televisions were old and reception was lousy. No way would we come back here.

We stayed here over Labor Day Weekend with our 4 & 6 year old kids. We had extended family also staying there in a condo room, but we had a regular room. The rooms were great & the drawbacks were minor (bathroom door doesn't stay open, lack of hot water one day, beds could be more comfortable). Our room was very nice. All rooms have a deck or patio which was nice. Ours had a wasp nest but maintenance took care of right away. The condo rooms were really nice.

We really enjoyed the indoor waterpark and the outdoor pool. The pools are perfect for small children. I think older kids could be bored. I was impressed that drinks at the pools were not over priced ($10 for bucket of 5 beers). I was also happy that there were not excessive rules that some waterparks have to hamper your enjoyment. The Bracco Cafe overlooking the lake was very nice & food was good, but not fantastic. We also utitlized the outdoor fire pit one nite, which was also a lot of fun.

I will say that if you want a quiet stay, this is not the place for you. I'll admit that we were a group that stayed up late & had kids running around. We did have a noise complaint called to our room. But if you're a fun loving night owl - this place is fantastic!

A fun place to stay with a large group. Condo style rooms were well suited to our group though the lay-out was a little odd but whatever. Kitchen was excellent, and rooms well decorated. Loved the indoor and outdoor pool. Above all a great value.

I have to say though that in all my years of travel all over the world I have never ever stayed anywhere with thinner walls. Sleeping was a challenge as you became part of the conversation of every single group that walked down the hall. Every door that was opened and closed throughout the floor felt inches away. We could have sung lullaby's to the crying baby next door. This situation should be addressed as it detracts from a postive experience.

Bridges Bay Resort has everything you can ask for as a place to have a family reunion. Great amenities including full kitchen, living room, dining room, etc. They also have a waterpark attached to the hotel for the kids and the adults who really like the watertube as we did. You get two passes included in the price of your room. Our rooms/condos were all on the first floor and a couple were poolside (we had requested all poolside but they couldn't do it for all 7 condos but the did try) We also reserved the picnic shelter for our group dinners for 30+ each night. Although the condos were plenty big for the gathering especially since we could spill out on to the lawn and patios. We didn't patronize the hotel restaurant/Bracco because on a previous visit I wasn't impressed at all with either the food or service. The surrounding area of Arnolds Park/Okoboji was great fun to explore and since we had gone to this area as kids it was fun to see how much it has changed and hasn't changed too. We did try Maxwell's Beach Cafe in Arnolds Park which was quite good. We also tried Los Agaves Mexican Restaurant on Hwy 71 and were very disappointed. Nasty place and even nastier food.
