The restaurant was almost deserted when we arrived. Inside it's very nice and our waitress was attentive and friendly.

The problem is the food. Not very tasteful at all and if you like vegetables, you're out of luck. The only vegetable available last night was green beans if you wanted something other that a salad.

Two of us had the Tuscan soup; one of us liked it. The other was a little more health conscious.

Decent selection of craft beers and wine.

Tyler & Downing's is a bar and grill located in what used to be the main grocery store in Anamosa, attested to by blown up photographs and shopping carts hanging from the ceiling. It's basically a bar that serves food. We enjoyed the smoked chicken wings, hamburgers, and fries. I'd pass on the barbecued ribs and pulled pork which were a bit dry. There is a wine list, but the restaurant didn't have the first few selections that we asked for. We found a pretty good cabernet in the $25 per bottle price range. For what it is, Tyler & Downings is a pleasant watering hole in downtown Anamosa with reasonable prices.

the cook isn't imported from new York city even though they would like you to think so. Exotic dishes are one thing. Exotic disasters are another. Will never go back.

While in Anamosa I ate here twice. The first time was near the end of the lunch service. I ordered the cod basket. It was very good. On that visit, our waitress was very efficient and the overall experience was nice. A couple of weeks I returned. The downstairs was being renovated so lunch service was upstairs. During this visit our waitress was quite pleasant, but oh so inefficient. She brought our iced tea and left. There was no sugar or sweetener on the table. When my friend asked for sweetener, she disappeared and came back in a few minutes to ask if sugar was okay. My friend expressed that she wanted sweetener. The waitress came back with a container of 3 varieties and was a little confused as to what they were. Really? Who doesn't know what sweetener is...........especially a waitress. I ordered the pork tenderloin sandwich. It was very good. All in all our lunch experience was nice, but the service was severely lacking in many aspects.
