This appeared to us as being an older property that could stand a little updating. The desk worker did his thing in checking us in but without much interest that we were here. The room #110 overlooked the parking area and near the freeway. Noise was minimal except for the hour a large group had a party outside our window. The room, with 2 queen beds and a soft chair, was an adequate size. There was no refrigerator or microwave but there was one in the breakfast area. Bedding was on the soft side and lighting was good. There was a full size bathroom and a large sink counter. All facilities were in working order.
The breakfast bar, located off the lobby, was small with 6 small tables. The selection was mainly cold items but with a waffle iron. At the time we were there the attendant was no where to be seen. No restocking of items or the cleaning of the tables. We elected to go near the downtown area for restaurants as the few around the motel did not excite us. Because of the location, right by the freeway, travel to downtown was very easy. If we were in Ames again we would again stay there.

We turned down the comforter on the bed and were surprised and disgusted at all of the hair on the sheets. We promptly left and did not spend a second more in that hotel. This is not what we hoped for after a long day of diving. Just when we thought we could relax, we had to find another hotel.

We arrived at the hotel (no reservations) around 9:00 PM. The only room they had left was a smoking OR upgrade to a "suite" for $10 more. My husband decided on the "suite". I am not sure what was so "suite" about it. I guess it did have a couch in one corner of the room, other than that it was pretty standard. It was a clean room, the bed sunk down in the middle a little bit - but for a last minute hotel it worked fine. The next morning we had the 'Comfort' breakfast, which consists of donuts, bagels, fresh made waffles, juices/coffee, fruit and toast. We also grabbed a complimentary newspaper to read on our drive home. I would stay there again, but maybe I'd try another hotel (all within a short distance) if it was a little cheaper.
