“Great for Accommodating Long Stays”
Reviewed December 11, 2010

My husband and I were moving to Ames for work. Due to circumstances surrounding finding a place to live, my husband needed to stay in a hotel for 6 weeks. They were very accommodating honoring our Priceline rate the entire stay and working with us to schedule rooms each week based on work schedules. The front desk manager was great to work with, had quick service if we had a problem, and was very helpful in providing us information about Ames. They have special drink/meal deals for Priority Club members at their restaurant. There are microwaves and refrigerators in all the rooms, very helpful so we didn't have to eat out each night. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and will no doubt book this hotel when we have family and friends in town.

Sorry for the late review. Stayed here last September for an ISU game on points plus cash as they had raised the room rate to $160 which is standard for all hotels in the area.

We had a pets allowed room and paid an additional amount for this privilege. We were told over the phone that our pet could be left while we went to the game as long as it was in a kennel. When we arrived I had to sign an agreement that pets could not be left and the person in charge was not very friendly or helpful. Of course, I was not happy and they did agree to let her stay in the room briefly while we went to eat.

The room was small and had a pull out couch for my daughter which was very uncomfortable but luckily we had brought a foam overlay which really helped (learned from past experiences at hotels to bring this if you will be sleeping on a pull out). The carpet had gum stuck to it, hall carpet was dirty. On site restaurant was only open until 10:00 a.m. for breakfast (even on a Sunday).

Stay at the Gateway next door, much nicer hotel for the same money and they are very pet friendly, have a great restaurant that stays open all day, friendly helpful staff.

We needed a hotel for one night and one that would accept pets. This was my first trip to Ames, and as I found out, Ames does not have much of a selection of well-priced, nice hotels. This was the only nice-looking hotel that we could find that had a good price and accepted pets. We had four people in our party, but had to stay in a King room with a fold-out bed. The room was nice, but for some reason the entire hotel just seemed really boring. The room was well-appointed but still had an old television which did not have good picture quality. Also, the coffee was not good. The pool area was okay, and the hot tub was very hot! As usual with a Holiday Inn, there was no complimentary breakfast. I also did not like the HVAC system in the room because the fan would not run continuously when the air conditioning would shut off, so you had to keep the room really cold to keep air circulating. The business center was nice and cozy. The front desk staff were very, very nice. Overall, this hotel was okay, and it did the job just fine for one night, but I would not want to stay here much longer than one night. In all reality, it is probably one of the nicest hotels in Ames.

My daughter just graduated ISU, so we've stayed at several Ames area hotels. This one was one of the nicest, but also more expensive.

Front desk was great, things we needed were quickly rememdied/supplied, slept great....loved the 6" section of the pool for my little guy. We had 2 queens and a foldout, so we had enough space for all of us....yippee...and it was clean, the carpet looked newer, the room looked fresh and updated.

Also, since we were there for an event, we were on University, but just outside town, so 2 minutes from everything we went to see....but opposite of traffic and far enough away...so I really like the location....

For the price, continental Bfast would have been nice.

I spent three days here during a snowstorm. The hotel seems like it was built fairly recently, and is attractive and clean. The only room they had left was an executive, which even at the government rate came out to $122 with tax. The room was enormous. There was a huge long living room with a kitchenette type area at one end, a conference table, a couch and a TV. The bedroom is a bit smaller than a standard room by itself. The bathroom was toward the front of the living room area, kind of a long walk to the bed. It was new, with a nice granite sink outside. The rooms were clean, and the furnishings were newer, although one of the conference chairs had a big stain, and the TV in the living room was pretty old and small.
The service was friendly. They have a free happy hour some evenings, although the second night they cancelled it due to weather and wouldn't even give you a free drink, although the girl who tended bar had managed to make it in. Despite the full house, the room was quiet at night. The pool area was nice, but nothing special.

Very nice smaller Holiday Inn. The rooms were updated w/nice decor. TV was grainy and not an LCD with the more modern updates I would have expected the newer TV. We experienced great customer service and had to change from a smoking room to non-smoking and it wasn't a problem. Nice large pool area, but pool is L-shaped which was different. Whirlpool was OK, I've been in better. They have a small restaurant & room service with good prices and very small bar that has 'basic' drinks. Shower was great, good pressure and very hot water. We would return. Free internet.

I stayed here 2 nights while attending a conference.

The hotel has a nice "welcome home" feel from the moment that you walk in the door. The decor is contemporary and looks recently updated. I found all staff that I came into contact with to be welcoming and helpful.

Room: I was given a room with a King bed with a pull-out couch. The rooms have a refridgerator and microwave which was a nice touch. The room was immaculate!

Extra Touches: Given the economic times that we are in I felt that this particular Holiday Inn goes above and beyond to ensure that your stay starts off on the right foot. When I entered my room, there was a welcoming note from the hotel manager and a cold bottle of water and a snack bag of Chex Mix on the table. It was a touch that was unexpected, and brought a smile to my face.

Internet: Wireless connection was FREE and moved along a a good speed.

Restaurant: I ate one meal in the restaurant. The meal items are reasonably priced.

Pool and Fitness: There is a pool available for guest use as well as a small fitness center. They have 1 bike, 2 treadmills (1 was broken) and 1 elipitical machine. There is a TV in the room and a small selection of free weights.
