“Was not the best”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

Visited Amana Colonies and this had the best rating of the restaurants there. If this was the best we probably should have waited until we got into Iowa City to eat. The food was nothing special. Wife had weinerschnitzle that wasn't bad but the brats and chicken that others in the group ordered had little flavor and the potatoe pancakes weren't good. Could have had the canned vegetables at any cafeteria and the noodles on the side had been soaking long enough to be mushy.

Waitress could have used some additional training in customer service. A smile would have helped and only your mother is allowed to hand plates across the table. Never been to a place where the waitress didn't even offer the dessert menu.

I want to apologize for the unsatisfactory experience you incurred at the Ox Yoke Inn. To prevent this from happening again it would be helpful to know when you were here, the name of your server and specifically what you did not like about the potato pancakes. We do go to the daily expense of making up real dessert trays that are to be presented to each table. The servers wear a name badge and the name appears in the upper left hand corner of your receipt. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Please contact me at bill@oxyokeinn.com or 800-233-3441.
Sincerely,

“Eat raw chicken, save 10%”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

My wife enjoyed a plateful of raw chicken. I will add the photo later when I have a moment. Oxyoke inns solution was to have us pay for just 90% of the meal that will make her violently I'll for the next 24 hours. 10% off was managements solution for a complete unedible meal. Bad food, great atmosphere if you are into 70's style updates and enjoy boring.

I want to apologize for the unsatisfactory chicken that your wife was served. Your review is the first time that I learned about your complaint. Unfortunately, your server did not follow our internal reporting. It would be helpful if you could respond with more information. When were you at the Ox Yoke Inn? Were you at the Amana or Innterstate location? Did your wife order the Traditional Fried Chicken? In order to prevent this from happening again do you remember your server's name? They do wear a name badge and the name appears on the upper left hand corner of the receipt. Please respond to bill@oxyokeinn.com or phone #800-233-3441.
Sincerely,

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2012

My wife and I were visiting from Arizona. I had grown up in Iowa and the Amana colonies were always a favorite. Last time we were back we tried to go to Walter's place but it was closed. We went to the Colony Inn and it was just ok. Decided to go to the Ox Yoke instead this time. The things I remember about the Amana colonies is that the food was varried and abundent. It wasn't this time.

The meal consisted of cottage cheese, coleslaw (very good I might add), saurkraut, mashed potatoes, gravy, a choice of corn or beans and our main course. I chose the roast beef. The beef was good, but not very much there.

We kept asking for refills the waitress seemed annoyed by having to refill the bowls.

The food was good, but the variety was disappointing. Also the pie variety was quite limited and an upcharge.

I used to brag to everyone about how great the Amana Colonies were, can't do that anymore.

“lots of choice & good value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012

Ate lunch here and had so much to choose from on the menu - so had the special on offer, which was pork, mashed potato & green beans. Very filling and very good, really enjoyed it. Friendly staff and good atmosphere with big German steins on the fireplace showing the heritage of the place. Desserts are all on one tray and shown to you at the table - not that we had any room for them! Looked good though!

“Our favorite in the Colonies”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

We always try to dine at all Amana Restaurants when we visit a couple of times a year. Our repeat favorite is the Ox Yoke Inn. They have consistently good food and interesting specials. We have never had any issue with the service as all wait staff is cordial and accommodating. I usually order schnitzels and my fiancee orders Sauerbraten, however, we have never been disappointed with any items on the menu.
