We went to the Amana Colonies during the Octoberfest celebration. Everything was beautifully decorated with pumpkins, flowers, corn stalks and Indian corn. Boutiques, wineries, art, leather goods, antiques, iron works/goods, cheese, sausage, kitchen supplies, furniture, coffee shops, fudge, bakeries, and restaurants line the streets. We bought kettle corn from a popcorn vendor.

I was staying in Cedar Rapids, and did a day trip to the Amana Colonies. Took the guided tour and thoroughly enjoyed the area. In fact I came back 2 additional times in one week. Just couldn't get enough of the ambience of the area.

What a quaint little village with such history. I never realized that the Amana appliances, like stoves, came from Amana, Iowa from the people here. There is so much history to be learned here. We visited alot of the shops ! We did the free wine tasting at several wineries. I bought 4 bottles of wine that day. Everyone was so nice at every shop. Took many pics! It was a beautiful day ! This colony of people were self-sufficient back in the day! They had a wool mill, furniture factory, etc. We ate at The Colony Inn. Nice lunch! And I loved the Christmas room in one of the crafty shops!!!

We had a great day going from building to building learning about the Amanas. There is a lot to see and we picked a weekday so it was easy to get around without the weekend crowds. There are lots of things to munch on and places to stop for lunch and dinner.
