The Museum of Amana History is an excellent source of information about the Community of True Inspiration group which founded the 7 villages.

“Not Amish”

This basically German influenced bit of Americana has little to nothing to do with The Amish more prominent in nearby Kalona.

“Lots of hype but good to experience it”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2012

A quaint little village with a number of shops that have plenty of trinkets. Some have genuine lovely handcrafted things, like Schantz furniture or the broom shop. I have not been impressed with the food. At any rate the history of the area is interesting and there are plenty of historic buildings

“What a wonderful testimony to adapting to the times”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2012

The Amanas' were a group that immigrated to America for religious freedom. As times changed, they changed but kept their core values. The past is lovingly perserved and the food is wonderful.
