Owner description: Pokagon is an Indiana State Park located in Angola, Indiana, on the shores of Lake James. Pokagon has both electric and non-electric campsites, as well as a youth tent area and group camp. There a two swiming beaches at Pokagon along with miles of hiking trails, a bike trail, a Nature Center open daily and the Potawatomi Inn and Conference Center. In the winter, Pokagon is home to a refrigerated toboggan run. Because of it is refrigerated, it does not need snow to go and is open from the day after Thanksgiving until the last weekend in February.

We visit each year and meet good friends there. We always make our reservations one year in advance as the lodge fills up fast and there are few rooms available at short notice. The breakfast is always good in the lodge restaurant. We have never eaten lunch or dinner there as we explore the surrounding area in Angola and have found many good restaurants to enjoy. This is a good place just to relax with friends and enjoy the surrounding nature.

We visited over the July 4th Holiday and were very impressed with the many offerings at this park. We rented bikes and explored some of the trails which was very nice. We plan to return to try the beach and more of the trails. We also want to come back and stay at the Inn during the Winter to try our the tobogan run; they run a special during the Winter where you can stay one night and get one free during the week. Also, forgot to mention Lake James is beautiful and the park rents boats as well. Enjoy!

Park was not bad, very busy, very touristy. Just not what we were looking for. Noisy from all the boats and beach goers.

I spent a few relaxing days here in October, and the park is absolutely beautiful at this time of the year. It was mid-October, so the leaves were an array of colors and the temperatures were still warm during the day.

Some of my favorite activities included sitting by the lake and hiking the trails. It was very peaceful and a place I would recommend to anyone needing a getaway.

The accomodations at Potowatomi were exquisite and quaint. A local family eatery called Clay's is wonderful.

Enjoy.

Love the trails, the area, and the people here! There are lots of hiking trails back through the woods, and lake access to james, in the winter you can hit up the tobaggan sleds, and AWESOME experience.
