This was so much fun! The owners, Mike and Glenda, were more than happy to share their history and experience about the ball of paint. It was fascinating to hear how many people from all over the world and celebrities have participated in this Guinness World Record ball of paint. My husband and I painted the 25,593rd layer in blue. Now I can say I am part of that record. Been there and bought the t-shirt. It is a wonderful attraction. There is no cost, so be sure to leave a donation. Oh, and call ahead so they can expect you.

We stopped by with two of our kids on a college visit to our oldest. The World's Largest Ball of Paint was a little bit magical, to be honest. It was like being given entrance to Oz, kind of mysterious and a little odd, but good odd. You have to call ahead and we didn't get an answer so we just stopped in. The proprietor was gracious and invited us in. There we witnessed a splendid, huge ball of yellow paint, which grew layer after layer from a tennis ball coated in paint to a 5000-pound paeon to paint. We were given the number 25, 341 and then offered a choice of colors to add our own layer. Soon the four of us were slathering blue paint and contributing to the Guinness Book of World Records record for largest ball of paint in the world! Somehow, it was soothing and fun and cool and weird--we all loved it, even the college boy. The owner told us some cool stories about famous visitors like Jimmy Kimmel and CBS This Morning and other media. She said the Gaithers (local Gospel music legends) had called ahead and said they were bringing their grandkids. "They also brought the Oakridge Boys," she said. "They painted and they sang some too." The site is free although they take donations, which we were more than willing to give. If your family enjoys things that are offbeat and off the path of the masses, the Ball of Paint offers a fun memory for the whole family.

I have to say I wasn't expecting much. We were killing time so we decide to take our group there. Never thought I would enjoy it so much. Not only do you get to see it, they allow you to add to it. The owners are so welcoming and friendly. A truly unique and fun experience. If you're near Alexandria, take time and go see this Indiana wonder.

This is why I like road trips; being able to stop & see the unique oddities in the US! We were able to paint our own layer of paint to be added to the record. So cool! Make sure you call ahead of time to give the owners a heads up. They're very nice.

Be a part of a Guinness Book of World Records! People from all over the world have flocked to this oddity! The World's Largest Ball of Paint hangs from an industrial-size hook - which all started as a baseball that the owner encouraged his son to put a layer of paint on - now over 5000lbs! You will be given your "number" (I was #25,160 & used Orange paint) and a paint roller (with a bunch of colors of paint available at the time - they get the rejects from the local paint store - so it makes it even more interesting..) - then you get to painting the ball! There is a mirror on the floor to even get the underneath! This is a cool little roadside stop - call in advance, and they'll be waiting! Very accommodating hosts - and btw - leave a tip... they do this out of their own pockets and they don't charge anything! Go have fun!
