More than ice cream, this place serves good breakfasts, lunch and dinner (no alcohol). It is family style good cooking and priced fairly. Been in the same location fo decades, as other similar concept competitors nearby have come and gone, so Colonial passes the test of time!

Serves your basic albeit uninteresting breakfast. Atmosphere is good, but the food and service are very basic.

The food is decent, but we know that going in. The kids love to go for the after dinner food. The kitchen sink is a staple since I was a kid and loved this place. Inexpenisve food, but just ok on the taste.

Colonial has been around for generations. It was a place I enjoyed as a kid and now as a grownup I'm glad they have been so successful to have such a nice modern restaurant. I can only eat here when visiting family but it is one of our favorites. They still have the "kitchen sink" ice cream sundae - it's just plain fun.

Local "50's Diner" chain that was a hangout place in the 80's. They expanded into a number of restaurants in the 90's - but this Aurora spot is an older location. They're most famous for their large "Kitchen Sink" ice cream sundae. It's a hearty banana split served in a container that looks like a sink -- a big kick for kids. (see here http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2205010977) But times have changed, and so have people's tastes. Now, while the food is still decent, and they have tried to update the menu,(i.e. you can find avocado in an omelets) it still feels "dated." I do eat there from time to time and generally tend to like the food, but can leave feeling "heavy" or "buttery." Portions tend on the smaller side. Service varies by waitress. On the other hand, they make their own Ice cream, and it is good. If you're in the mood for this type of family restaurant food -- keep traveling West down the street (two lights) and go to "Mother's." (on left) Decor is about the same, but you'll get more for your money with huge portions. But if you want ice cream with your meal -- then stop right here, as Colonial is the place to go!
