For our 26th anniversary, my husband and I didn't feel like traveling far but wanted to get away for a night or two. We've stayed in a number of incredible inns and hotels (Paris, London, New York, Southern California, Berskshires and more), and now Alton, Illinois. I did a web search for charming inn near st. Louis and that's what the Beall mansion is. The hosts were amazingly gracious when we arrived (in spite of the fact that there was a group of people just arriving for a wedding rehearsal for the wedding to be held there the next day). We stayed in the Verandah room, which had a pleasant outside upper deck as advertised. We actually left the next morning at 9:30, but not before being served the continental breakfast (I'm sure the gourmet breakfast was great but we didn't need the calories) on the front porch. They've been working on fixing the mansion up for about 10 years and putting great care into the amenities as well as the grounds (lots of peonies in bloom when we were there). Before breakfast we drove out to the new Confluence point state park (across the bridge in Missouri) to see where the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers come together, and later toured the lock and dam, which was actually impressive. The Beall mansion is charming for what it looks like, but even more for the welcoming care given by its great hosts (who also made dinner reservations for us the night before).

My new husband and I stayed at the Beall Mansion the night after our wedding. It was the perfect ending to a perfect event. I would recommend this establishment to anyone who is looking for a beautiful environment where they can relax.

My wife and I enjoyed our recent stay here. The mansion was clean and the owners (Jim and Sandy) were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We were greeted by Jim who wears a tux while he's working and actually helped carry our bags in from the car! Some exterior repair and renovation were in progress, but nothing that adversly affected our stay. The owners evidently have invested quite a bit into the building in the many years they've owned the place and they continue to do so. By the time you read this, the front porch floor will be completely redone. The interior is furnished with period furniture & furnishings. The public areas are filled almost to the point of clutter with lots of comfortable antique furniture, books, nick-nacks, plants, etc. etc. We had the "expanded continental" breakfast. As far as the continental, it was satisfying and presented well, although not fancy and appeared store bought (ie: no special home baked goods, etc.). Overall we feel our stay was worth the price and would return.

Very quiet and personal setting. Room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast couldn't have been served more beautifully. Will return in the near future.
