Owner description: The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

Pali lookout located at the ko'olau mountain located at the head of of the Nu'uanu mountain. Lots of big and beautiful trees and strong winds make you feel that you are in the heaven. Visit this place when you visit Honalulu.
The scenery is stunning and the wind wow!
Many pictures about the war King Kamehemeha fought there and history of the place.

“Stunning view”

Our stay in Hawaii had been sun and ocean up until our stop at Pali Lookout. Suddenly there were cooler temperatures and wind – lots of wind! Parking was easy and the walk to the lookout point is not a hike, just several yards. The parking is self-pay and there is no hiking trail.
The view is spectacular! It is so windy that you need to either take off your hat and hold it, or hold on to it.
This was also the site of a battle for the island of O’ahu in 1795 where more than 400 warriors were driven off the edge of the cliff. I love historical facts like this and thinking that here I am, standing in the same place where this happened.
A pretty short little trip and worth going to.

“Excellent view”

I didn't even know this place existed but I am glad I found it. It was a great point to see the more north side of the island. It was very windy up there but it was nice.

“Beautiful views”

The Pali Lookout is worth the short drive from Honolulu. The history is interesting and the views are stunning. The strange thing about the lookout is that parking is on a self paid parking system. We didn't realize this until we left; I doubt most visitors paid for parking either. What is the point?

Easy access to a beautiful area for a view of Oahu. You pay a minimum fee to park but worth the expense.
