Molokai is Hawaii's great little secret so don't tell anyone how relaxing this little Island is... Our outing to Purdy's found an experience typical of the laid back attitude and gentle fun you experience here. We arrived just in time to join several others in the explanation of how to grow, harvest and EAT these wonderful gifts from God. The folks are as homey as you could ask for and let you crack and EAT as many as you want (think I have a macademia nut facination?) they have a tiny little shop with some great products. I've hoarded my nut oil and honey the best I could, now it's time to go get some more! Enjoy no glitz or fancy bells and whistles here and for me that's a great thing!

We went to Molokai for a week stay on the east side and drove over to the nut farm.
Go hungry, because Tuddie won't let you buy anything until you eat some of his nuts.
Get some Kukui oil too he sales for a friend. It is great stuff.
Great aloha spirit is felt by all who enters the family style farm. Aloha,
Steve from his mother.

The tour that is given by Mr. Purdy is very educational and informative about the origin, history and growing of the Macadamia nut.
The actual nut products that are produced on this farm are very different from the 'mass produced' type of nuts. The taste and texture are in our opinion far superior to the factory produced nuts.

We visited Mr. Purdy's farm as a stop on the Alii Guided Tour purchased through the ferry boat, Maui Princess. You walk through the grove of macadamia nut trees to his little store where he greets you. He tells you about the life cycle of the tree and its fruit. Then you go to work cracking open as many macadamia nuts as you want. You are allowed to eat the fruits of your labor. He also gives you samples of the nuts, fresh coconut, and Hawaiian honey for dipping. Very interesting and free. Plan on spending 30 minutes.
