“Lifeguard at the Big Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Large, soft sand. Nice place to relax. And a lifeguard on duty if you are looking for added safety. Bring water and snacks.

“Excellent if you want big waves”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

The waves were actually too big for us to enjoy....but if that's what you are looking for then go here. Not a great place for small children but that's okay because there are plenty of maui beaches that are.

“Big beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

The beach is so big with the white sands and some good point like Molokini island also Lanai/ Molokai???( I'm not sure with one, sorry!!! ). The beach good for swim, body board or even surfing but make sure bring umbrella to provide shade or apply some sun lotion enough to cover your skin because the only shade about 150 feet or more by the some kind forest trees when you enter from parking lot ( free parking ). For those who like to picnic there are some tables under the trees too.

“Wonderful day of snorkeling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

The beach was very nice and quite peaceful the day we were there. It is fairly isolated and quite a bit south on the west coast of Maui. There is not a huge reef there, but there are a lot of fish and turtles swimming about.

“Thrill seekers, the waves are great on this beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

We always have a good time when visiting Makena. Try to ascertain beach conditions before you get in, because the currents can be very strong and the waves high, but it's very enjoyable if you like to surf or just bask in the sun.
