We visited late in the afternoon. Beautiful beach not to crowding and good swimming. There's a short hill to walk down but its not too bad.

“Best White Sand Beach On Maui! FREE!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

After visiting the 7 pools at Ohe'o Gulch, and building up a sweat, refresh here with a cool (80') dip in the ocean. James Mitchner described this beach as the most beautiful in the Pacific and I concur. It is a beautiful treasure of Maui. There are no rocks, it is mostly safe, and the waves are perfect for body surfing. Take some sandals as the sand can get hot before you get to the moist part. There is free parking at the top of the hill and it is a short, steep walk to the beach. If you are a guest of the Travaasa Hana Maui Hotel, they have a free scuttle to and from this beach that unlocks the chain at the top and drives you down the steep hill. (they better at over $400. a night!) The hotel is an excellent if pricy place to eat!

“Beautiful Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

James Michener, The author of Hawaii, thought Hamoa Beach to be the most beautiful beach in the Pacific. This a great place to relax and enjoy. There is plenty of shade, sand, and tropical plants. We were there first thing in the morning and had the place to ourselves. The surf was rough from a previous storm, so we didn't do any snorkeling, but it is suppose to be pretty good. This would be a good place to spend the day if you want to be surrounded by beauty and relax. Just park off to the side of the road past the lookout and take the steps down to the beach.

“Best beach in Maui.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

After completing the drive to Hana, which although excellent, left me longing to spend some time on a beach, stopping at Hamoa was like a breath of fresh air. It was by far the most beautiful beach I've ever seen or visited. It was the picture perfect Hawaiian postcard scene... incredibly blue waters, good size waves, and not very populated. It seemed as though there were a lot more locals there as opposed to tourists. Excellent spot for bodysurfing and boogie-boarding, and I also saw some people using boards. It is off the beaten path, and surrounded by beautiful wildlife and trees. It was absolutely worth the drive, and I highly recommend stopping here for a good while! This beach and Wai'napanapa State Park made me wish we had spent a few nights in Hana - it would be GLORIOUS to be able to go here more than once a trip!

“Best beach I've ever been to!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013 via mobile

This beach is most definitely the best beach in Hawaii! It's beautiful blue water and it's tranquil wildlife enchants the soul. Definitely worth the drive out to Hana (which is quite scenic too to say the least). Hamoa beach also has great waves and is perfect for surfing and boogy boarding. Also, Hamoa beach is never crowded and barely has any people there, mainly because of it's far off location. It's almost like having a private beach at times! Hamoa Beach is a certain must when visiting Hana and East Maui.
