“Nice Sidetrip on way to Princeville or Hanalei”

Kileaua Point National Wildife Refuge Lighthouse
Ranked #62 of 287 things to do in Kauai

The Kileaua Lighthouse has some interesting history and is nice to take pictures of.
The surrounding wildlife, mainly seabirds of many varieties, are interesting to view, observe and read about. Nice place to stroll about for a half-hour or so.
Parking is ample; it costs $5/pp to get in; note only open from 10AM-4PM.
Beware, there is no natural shade up there, it can get very hot, so plan accordingly.
I consider this site a one-time only attraction, would not return if back on island.

This was $5/adult and we were happy to pay to help support the cause. There were binoculars that you signed out on a self serve honour basis. The area was GEORGEOUS and we learned an lot about the local birds for the area. Some soaring and some roosting. The lighthouse was restored to beauty and the gift shop was very welcoming. Only a little bit out of the way - go see and support the bird refuge. You will feel honoured that you did! There was a golf cart to drive mobility challenged folks from the pay booth to the light house area.

Well signposted this was worth the drive off the main road. Plenty of parking and only $5 each to get in was well worth it. The money funds the wild life refuge and it was cool seeing the nesting and wandering birds in pristine natural surroundings. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable if you had questions and the gift shop was well stocked and well priced. Great views, no overcrowding and a good stop, with clean restrooms always a good bonus. Keep up the great work.

Great place to see many birds-- saw several shearwater birds nesting and had fresh laid eggs at the nature center. It is worth the drive and entrance fee to come here. The views are unbelievable of the Kileaua Lighthouse before you head down to the parking lot. Can spend several hours here to observe all the different types of birds.

Visited here while in port from a Hawaii Cruise. Though the lighthouse was "under wraps" for refurbishment, the views of Hanalei Bay and the mountains of Kauai were simply stunning. There were tremendous numbers of red-footed boobys roosting in the cliffs next to the lighthouse, and there were literally hundreds of them flying about.

I would definitely go here again, especially since there was rain at nearby Hanalei, which prevented the best photo ops of that area from this vantage point. Absolutely beautiful!
