“Best Snorkeling we found on Kauai”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

We stopped there after hiking the Kalalua trail. We needed to chill after that hike.
It is very hard to find and not marked well to find it. We found local boy who showed us a alleyway to park in and access between people houses. It almost seemed like private property.

The beach was gorgeous and uncrowded. There were less then 20 people there at 430pm.
This was the the best place we have ever snorkeled. We saw many thousands of fish and at least 50 different varieties. We had several big turtles swim up to us. They seemed as curious to see us and we were to see them. The water was crystal clear. The section of beach we were on was not a swimming beach because of all the coral, but a great snorkeling spot. Sand was soft on the shore.
There was many types of coral there-Lots of diversity . We saw a couple areas of damaged coral.

“Favorite Beach”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

Be sure to get there early because of the parking is not that great. You can park at Haena Beach and walk or just watch for the signs and go early to get a closer parking spot. The water is so clear and the reef is great. You can almost stand up everywhere and see fish. My husband has a GoPro and got great underwater footage of the sea turtles. The water was great. Lots of people but you will have room to snorkel its a really big beach. Pack a lunch and stay the day you will have a great time.

“Dead, Dead Coral!”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

So first off, I've dived and snorkel around the world, and upon arriving in Kauai, I read the reviews about how beautiful the Tunnels were, the key word here is WERE beautiful. It was absolutely depressing to see that much dead coral. There must have been 90% of it that was dead or dying. I can't believe anyone who has dived or snorkeled before would rate this as beautiful. What was even more depressing is how far away this island is and you still see the harmful effects of man on our environment. The beach was really beautiful though and couldn't be more stunning.

“Favorite snorkeling beach”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

We stayed in Lihue and made the 45 min trip to Tunnels for 2 of our 5 day stay because we enjoyed it so much! Although it was just my husband and I, the snorkeling would be perfect for young families. There was a bit of a strong tide pull some of the time, so I would have inexperienced or young snorkelers wear a snorkeling belt. The beach was beautiful, snorkeling close to shore and went on for quite a ways so you never felt crowded like some other beaches we've been to. There are very few parking spaces and they are hard to find without a guidebook because they all say "private", but you can park at Ha'ena State park and walk to where you want to sit. I would grab a shady spot because it gets hot. Definitely bring a cooler with lots of water and lunch so you can stay all day because you won't want to leave.

I was a little wigged out by the fact that this is the place that Bethany Hamilton lost her arm to a shark, but she was out further by the reef, so I just tried to enjoy. :)

“Monk Seal and Turtle!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

We were in Kauai for two weeks and made it to Tunnels Beach the day before we left. We are so glad to have gone there. We parked in Haena Beach parking lot, and made the short walk. All who snorkeled in our party swam with turtles. Tropical fish galore. With the mountains as the backdrop it is surely paradise.
