“A little on the small side.....”

One of the two beaches on the poipu side of Kauai. It's a little on the small side but it's very calm and good for snorkeling. Being as this beach is on the southern coast line of Kauai, it has the very best of weather conditions, year round. Brenneckers bar and grill is right across the street, so you can easily get a quick drink if you're so inclined. We were there during the height of the whaling watching season in early february. Not a whole lot of whales to be seen. Maybe the whales take different route around Kauai. Anyways you still get great beach time.

There are many beaches on Kauai offering a better location that Brennecke's. It is Ok for families, since children can enjoy the beach in reasonable safety provided the water is calm on a good day. One advantage is the proximity and walking distance to a restaurant and shops, otherwise, take a car and locate elsewhere.

First let me say that I am a big fan of this beach....but....conditions here can changes a matter of moments and the caregivers in the ER at Wilcox Hospital can attest to that. On a good day it is a bodyboarders paradise. Lat year I spent hours frolicking and bodysurfing at this beach. This year, I was nervous to get in. Of course we visited In January after a series of storms and some strange winter swells on the south side. The waves were considerably larger, and more treacherous than last year. Lots of "sneaker" waves. Even the locals were staying away...always a good sign not to go in. We also noticed significant sand erosion on our visit and more exposed rock both on the beach and in the water...making entry and exit somewhat challenging. I don't think this sand erosion is permanent , just part of mother nature's cycles. Because of the erosion there was less real estate for visitors to sit and relax on and it did feel like we were on top of each other. Even though the waves were not welcoming it was fun to sit and watch the power of the ocean sand the passing whales and dolphins this year.

This is our favorite snorkle spot on the island. Be on the lookout for monk seals and sea turtles too! Is a bit crowded, come early or late for less people!

We've been coming to Kauai for years and we love this beach. This was the most crowded we've seen it in years. It was tough catch good waves without running over someone. It was still great sitting on the beach and watching the waves come in.
