First off, I want to say that Waimea is not really in a "touristy" part of town. There are real people living here, and they don't look like the most well off people, if you catch my drift. Also, they are right on the beach.
That said, if you just look out at the water and sand, you will be amazed, It's quite beautiful. At sunset, the way the light hits the sand, you would swear you were on a black sand beach. (the specs of black sand, left in the olive colored sand, mixed with the light of sunset) Just beautiful! There were HUGE waves there the day we went, and it chased us to the edge of the beach. I thought it was a nice way to end our trip. However, I wouldn't stay much after the sunset! (seriously!)
