“Not a bad waterfall but it is pretty far away”

I saw some great waterfalls in Maui so maybe I am jaded however this waterfall wasn't very exciting. I am sure it is a decent size but from the distance you see it from isn't much to write home about. The parking is easy here and you can walk across the street to get a pretty view of a river and the mountains. It isn't too far off the beaten path so it isn't difficult to get to if you are interested but I wouldn't go out of your way to see just this fall. There are decent bathrooms at the parking lot if you need something on your travels.

While staying on the North Shore or traveling down to Waimea river area on the way South, take an easy 5 minute drive up to the falls (follow sign from main freeway) overlook parking lot and walk just a few steps up to the fence to see this wide 150 foot waterfall. It's pretty and so convenient. Crossing the road immediately by the falls overlook, you can see the river valley with kayakers making their way along the end of the river, and the old "fishing village" down below adjacent to the river, which is accessible by a turnoff a short distance uphill from the lot on the left. You'll enjoy this pretty landscape with tall trees behind.

These falls were just one of many we saw on the beautiful island of Kauai. We pulled off the road at the senic point and took these pictures. It was easy to get to.

The lookout is right off the highway, so it was really easy to visit, the detour to see the falls only took about 30 minutes. It was worth the visit.

We went up to Opaekaa Falls the last morning of our vacation. There was a raised observation area so could see over the plant life and take pictures of the falls in the distance. It was early morning so the light wasn’t fully hitting the falls yet and not ideal for taking pictures. The falls were lovely, but not spectacular. Driving up to the falls we had noticed the heavy traffic backed up at least a mile in the opposite direction, so instead of going back the same way we decided to continue on 580 and then take 581 to Kapaa. This detour was very scenic and made the trip to the falls worth the drive.
