“Best tour for kids!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2012

My 5 year old daughter and I did this tour the first day in Kauai and it was amazing. She could snorkel while holding onto the surf board and under the care of one of the instructors while I snorkeled by myself. Not having to be vigilent in terms of supervision of my daughter was a bonus to terrific, knowledegable guides. Kaylee and Paul were hilarious and our group was fun. All the kids on the tour learnt the skills to snorkel and do so more independently on future trips. We went North to Tunnels and saw an incredible variety of fish and some sea turtles. Lunch, snorkel gear, wetsuits and transportation were included. Highly recommended.

“4x4 Rainforest Hiking”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2012

This trip was great in that it took us to a part of Kauai that we would have otherwise not have gotten to see. Our guide, Aloha, was a wealth of information about the local culture and plant life. She was especially interesting as she is a native Hawaiian. The van ride was pretty bumpy and the walk a bit muddy, so be sure to wear appropriate shoes. Being in the middle of Jurassic Park and Avatar film territory was delightful. We ended up hiking a little up to the source of water for the former Lihue Plantation on Mt. Waialeale. Aloha's knowledge of herbal plants was a real treat.

“Wonderful snorkel experience in Poipu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2012

We went on a tour on 8/4/12 with Paul as our guide. He was incredibly funny and very knowledgeable. There were a total of nine of us. They did everything they could to insure a safe and successful snorkel experience for everyone. Equipment was good and we saw hundreds of fish by The Beach House Cove and then went a little further east to swim with the turtles. Highly recommend (especially for people with little snorkeling experience)!!

“4x4 Backroad tour and hike”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

Actually, our group was pretty clueless about what we would really experience on this 4x4 back roads tour. There was a description of traveling an exclusive former cane road to the top of a crater and having a 360 degree view from the peak. That was not quite what we got. It was still fun but the description was not very accurate.

First off, we go bad instructions from our concierge and could not find the supposed kiosk for our tour start. After a call to the tour operator, it turned out to be a secluded parking lot of a tourist mansion. I think the tour operator has not been keeping its agents well informed. Once we found our start location, we were picked up by a Ford Econoline passenger van that had been modified to be 4x4. We then spent 1/2 hour going to a hotel to pick up two more customers for a total of 8 in our tour.

Our tour guide, Paul, was, well – a bit unusual for a tour operator. He was a lot of fun, quite knowledgeable about the island history, constantly making verbal sound effects, and spouting some questionable facts now and then. He was very good with the young child in our group. After the hotel pickup, we ventured off onto a cane road in a former plantation and drove for another 30 minutes over a very bumpy road. The road did not look exclusive and we saw a few other 4x4 vehicles. The van ride won’t make you seasick but it might give you whiplash. While driving, Paul gave very detailed descriptions of the plant life and how the island inhabitants used the plants in early days.

Soon we arrived at a clearing and started the 1.5 hour hike phase of the tour. It was easy hiking with good scenery but we never got to any creator peak or mountain top. There was plenty of mud but fortunately, we encountered no rain. Don’t even think about coming with sandals or flip-flops. Get some hiking boots at the Lihue Walmart if you did not bring any. Along the way, Paul provided commentary about the surrounding plants. Our hike ended when the road became a boulder strewn stream. After poking around there for a while, we hiked back to the van and drove out of the plantation. We dropped off the two customers we had picked up and ended in our parking lot.

Since we didn’t know what to expect in this tour, we were not really disappointed but we were not thrilled either. Paul was interesting and fun at times but his antics got old. The scenery was lush but don’t expect a vine covered canopy. We hiked a work road, not a nature trail. The commentary was mainly centered on plants and how the inhabitants used the plants in their life. It was interesting to a degree but not memorable. As an alternative, consider driving to the end of HWY 56, to the Kalalau Trail and taking that 2 hour hike.

“Best tour we took as a shore excursion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2012

We took several shore excursions, and this was the best one. The snorkeling guides Kailee Mu, Paul, and Monika were all incredibly patient and considerate with us. I had snorkled a bit before, but my wife had not, and we were both very impressed with the tour guides. Paul fed the fish to attract big collections of pretty exotic (to us at least), for nice photo ops. He brought around a small octupus for us to look at and even to touch. The wetsuits provided for this tour gave helpful flotation for not so expert swimmers.
