“Breathtaking”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

You can view the lighthouse from above without driving down closer to the National Refuge, but you would be missing AMAZING views and close ups of the lighthouse. We finally broke down and "paid" to see the lighthouse and there are no regrets! There are restrooms, a gift shop and information about it once down there.

“Outstanding views”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Wonderful views and a lot of wildlife to see. The only negative was the entry fee of $5 a person which seemed a little high considering you can see the light house for free from the lookout before you enter. I would still recommend a visit.

“A nice scenic stop”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

We stopped on a drive around the north side of the island. It's a really nice scenic view of both the lighthouse and the bird sanctuary. There is an entrance fee, but it is a national park so that's to be expected. You can't go in the lighthouse but you can walk around the grounds and they even offer binoculars to adults and children to view the birds.

“Worth a side trip”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

The light house (now called Senator Dan Inouye light house) and nature sanctuary are extraordinary. It is a National Park so if you have a Senior Pass (or other National Park pass), the entrance fee is free for up to 4 adults (vs $5 pp which is still a bargain). The light house was placed in operation from 1913 to 1976 when it was replaced by an automatic beacon. The restoration project is commendable. There is plenty of information about the light house in a building next to the light house and several volunteers able to provide additional information. Its a beautiful location with the waves crashing below and frigate and red footed boobies flying in the air in addition to the albatross. It was a wonderful experience and well worth taking off an hour to see the site.

“Local's Fav”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Kilauea Lighthouse is a Kauai must-see for the views, the seabirds, whales Nov. to April and the overall nature experience. Use your US Parks Pass. Enjoy lunch at Kilauea Bakery or Lighthouse Bistro.
