Book in for a sunset ride, really poor weather so Gary was good enough to transfer our booking to the following day. Took the 2.5 hour morning ride, as a first time rider was made very at ease, our wrangler (so sorry cant recall her name!!!) was fantastic, learnt more about the islands and it's history in those 2.5 hours than all the time we've been here. Wonderful, experience of a lifetime!!

This was my FAVORITE activity on this island! The horses were great and well cared for and the view was beautiful!

Our family of four novice riders, went for the Picnic Tour recently and in short we had a terrific time riding plesantly mild tempered horses for over two hours with a picnic break in between among ancient Hawaiian ruins half way through our tour.

We reserved the tour by telephone and it was handled smoothly and efficiently. Our wrangler Gary was a polite and pleasant young man (who took our telephone reservation), and along with his friendly labrador Sadie, provided my family with an unforgettable experience. We felt that our wrangler performed his duty professionally principally by ensuring our safety and leading us through some truly amazing scenery. Gary was not an overly talkative type, and so he basically just let us ride, which we thought was very nice.

It should be stressed that, in order to enjoy a longish tour like the one we took, you really have to enjoy riding horses "per se", which we surely do. However, if your primary focus is on the great scenery, and if you are someone who needs to be constantly entertained by the guide, you may prefer a fully guided tour in an all-terrain vehicle instead.

This is SO not a boring nose to tail ride! You will be trotting and cantering on a gorgeous ranch. We are not "expert" riders by a long shot, but have had experiene (albeit English, not Western), and were excited to actually be able to spread out and get up some speed. We've done trail rides on Maui, Kaua'i, and Lana'i, and have been...to be honest...kind of bored. Next time we go to those islands, we will request a private ride so perhaps we'll be able to do some trotting and/or loping. After riding at Paniolo, I don't think I can deal with another nose-to-tail trip, where we either plod along, or trot at rare possibilities and risk getting reprimanded.

Our guide, Mana, was great. He was both encouraging, in terms of pushing our experience to the limit for thrillseeking purposes while also being alert to safety concerns. With that being said, this ride is not for the timid. At certain spots, the horses like to go, go, go. I think the ranch has a ride that is more like the nose-to-tail experiences that we've seen on other islands for those who would like a more mellow trip (the galloping was pretty intense, though fun!)The ranch offers boots, jackets, etc to make the cool air upcountry comfortable.

Interesting fact--the ride can last A LOT LONGER than you'd think, which is probably a good thing since you get more than your money's worth. We were told that for us it was because we did more trotting/loping than other groups (all of us in the group had experience riding) so we got farther out from the stables, but by the end, we were exhausted and our thighs were killing us! Not a bad thing, but just something to keep in mind. I think our ride was supposed to be about an hour and a half or two hours...it ended up being three hours or thereabouts!

In any event, I'd recommend this ride and ranch for thrillseekers who have some horseriding experience, or for experienced riders...it really was a great time. But definitely not for the beginners or the hesitant.

We took a 2.5 hour ride in the morning. The horses are well cared for and the ranch uses "bit-less" harnesses which is great for horses. You are proved with an amazing array of cowboy boots, raincoats, chaps, and optional helmets (if you are under 16 they are compulsory). Really nice people plus Sadie the dog.

The ride was amazing. We were not nose-to-tail and could have a fairly even spread in our group if we wanted to be slightly apart from each other. We began with a trot, one at a time to a point in the distance (probably to gauge our abilities). After that we walked most of the time, but did about 3-4 canter sessions which were fun.(always one at a time).

The scenery was magnificent and our guide so calm, capable and gently guiding us. At some point the weather turned, like a very strong wind witH spray. We had all brought out own rain jackets - which I advise you take or use theirs REGARDLESS of what the weather seems when you set out. It is very changeable,

It was a fantastic experience.... Until,we got off our horses, and realized without practice, riding really uses muscles we don't normally exercise. Still a bit achy a few days later.

However I would recommend this outfit over and again for their professional equipment and expertise.
