Nice beach, not that big, but you have full access to all ammenities. We were in the water and had lunch at the Mauna Kea Resort, made for a nice afternoon.

Incredibly clear water and nice and we even saw a honu (turtle) in ankle deep water near the shore. Shady spots at the northern and southernmost spots on this beach. Snorkeling also good on those ends close to the rocks where the fish and honu like to feed. One morning, we were told by another beachgoer that we had just missed spinner dolphins near the buoy. As others have remarked, you must get there early to get a parking permit (they only have 40). I would suggest getting there by 9am to get a spot. Otherwise, you have to keep trying and they don't have a waiting list. A must visit if you're on the Big Island!

Have been here a number of times, and it really can't be beat. Absolutely gorgeous, water incredibly clear, beach lovely.

pure white sand. sea turtles. shade.

In the AM you MUST get there before 10 to get a parking space (it is private property but all Hawaii beaches are public)

Easy access, perfect shape, tons of super soft sand, good snorkeling 30 feet offshore, great services and nice staff. I guess if it was in-season and it was packed, it would be less perfect, but barely. Even the most cynical in our group were dazzled.
