My wife and I booked a room here months in advance, as we were coming in for a wedding. There was a UGA football game that weekend, so we still paid a pretty penny. After arriving at 2am, we were catcalled by drunk guests out on the second level. We buzzed to be let into the lobby (that's right, they don't consider it safe to leave the main lobby door unlocked), checked in with the desk clerk (who was polite and respectful) and headed to our room.
First and foremost, the door didn't close properly- I didn't need my key to open the room. The room was dim, dark, and dirty, with cigarette burns on the bedding and stains on the carpet. The air conditioning unit was partially ripped out of the wall. The bathroom had mold in the shower, mold on the toilet, and mold along the caulking of the tub.
The condition of the room, combined with the safety concerns of both the door and our lovely "neighbors" upstairs, we refused to stay even one night. We immediately called other hotels in Athens, and found a wonderful spot for the same price as the Travelodge. Trouble was, they only had a room for the next night.
The Travelodge room was so bad, we drove to the other hotel, parked in the garage, and slept in our car rather than spend any more time there. The desk clerk had no real authority to issue refunds, but he was kind enough to call his manager and get us a refund for at least the second night. We still had to pay for the first night. While I appreciate that it's impossible to fill a reserved room at 2am, and it's in keeping with company policy, I feel a little cheated. We paid good money with the expectations of a clean, safe bed for the night, and we got none of that.
We received an email from the general manager a few days later, acknowledging that we had checked out early, and were unhappy with our stay. The email was, to be blunt, garbage. Had I not been expecting the message, I would have assumed this was someone trying to scam me. There was no company information in the email. No letterhead, no address, no phone number. There were spacing errors, and English was very clearly not the GM's first language. I don't begrudge him that at all, but in business communication, you need to be able to clearly form a sentence. If you can't, then hire an office admin to take care of your official correspondence.
Don't waste your money here.
