“Extra charges”
Reviewed February 15, 2010

We liked the hotel overall. Nice rooms with newer appliances and very clean. However, after getting home, I was contacted by the hotel and told I was being charged for a loose tile in the bathroom. After two hours explaining that I should not be resposible for the loose bathroom tile they finally agreed that it must have pooped out and would not charge me. They also charged me $75 for some small brown spots on the carpet that we did not cause. We never had anything in the room that could cause the stains. I am left feeling that they were intending to find a way to charge extra no matter what. I would not reccommend staying here unless you first video tape the entire room for any flaws.

We stayed at the Gameday Center for 5 nights during our daughters graduation and wedding. The suites are spacious and well kept. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite that was decorated in Georgia colors. The living room also had a large couch that pulled out into a bed. Our suite had a balcony with a nice view of downtown. The hotel is conveniently located downtown and is within walking distance to lots local restaurants, bars, and to North Campus The shuttle was also a nice feature. We booked it reasonally cheap to take us back and forth between the chapel and Classic Center during the wedding. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. I would definately stay here the next time I am in Athens.

Several of my college friends and I reunited in Athens to ring in the New Year, each of us driving in from all over the South. We chose the Gameday Center because, although it may be somewhat pricey, the downtown location, spacious accommodations, and promise of free transportation convinced us to book our first stay. The suite lived up to most expectations: comfortable, clean, welcoming, and more or less suitable for a reunion of friends. However, the treatment we received from the staff was exactly the opposite. The hotel's official website explicitly claims (without any qualifiers or fine print) to "take you anywhere within our 5 mile radius for FREE!", with no mention of specific hours or days during which this service would be unavailable. So, assuming that we were "covered" by the hotel, each of drank a fair amount of champagne over the course of the night, knowing that we would not need to drive later on in the night. When we came to the front desk to ask for the transportation shuttle, we were told that the driver was not available. I asked reasonably that the hotel then offer to compensate our taxi fare to and from a location about 2 miles from the center. None of us could be expected to drive. A manager was contacted over the phone and agreed to compensate the cost of our transportation as documented by the taxi driver. When we did this and brought our two receipts (totalling $45) to the manager the following morning, we were told that it is not the "policy" of the hotel to provide such compensation and were instead offered a discount on a future stay (which will never occur). The hotel provided false information on its official website, failed to provide its advertised amenities, promised monitary compensation and then subsequently reneged on that promise (adding an extra $45 to our stay).
There are several other downtown hotels that cost less and consistently work FOR the customer rather than against him in what seemed like every attempt to make money. It's one thing to provide poor customer service - which was also the case here - but when that poor customer service essentially increases the room fee by 40% and encourages its patrons to drive after drinking, I feel there is reason enough to drive past the Gameday Center and bring your money elsewhere.

I stayed here in a 2BR/2BA condo with a group of four college girlfriends for a mini-reunion weekend and it was the perfect set up. We enjoyed having a kitchen for snacks and beverages; beds were comfortable, the unit was clean and modern (we laughed that it is truly COMPLETELY UGA-oriented --- down to the handles on the cabinets that were shaped like the Georgia "G") and it is perfectly located downtown for an easy walk to bars, restaurants, and North Campus. It was a great place to get together with friends and still have a little more of your own space for about the same price as a regular hotel room. I would definitely return.

We stayed at the Gameday while visiting family in Athens. We were pleasantly surprised by the accomidations. The suites are spacious and well kept. There were 3 television sets and 3 bathrooms in our 3 bedroom suite. The kitchen was very nice and fully equipted with an oven, stove, and microwave. The living room had a large couch that was also a fold out mattress. Our suite had balconies overlooking the parking structure. We weren't there during any sporting events so the rates were low and we practically had the place to ourselves. The surrounding area is great too, walking distance to many stores and restaruants in downtown Athens. It seems like a great place to stay for an extended period of time. It may be completely different during the sport season, so be sure not to schedule a stay during their peak season if you aren't there for a game.

When I travel I enjoy staying in a suite. I like the seperation b/w my living and sleeping area. This has that and more. These are actual condo units that are fully furnished. There's a helpful hotel staff and cleaning service like any other hotel. The kitchen was fully stocked and had granite counters and stainless steel appliances. Free DSL in the room with a pull out in the living area (for the kids).

The secure free parking was nice since you never really know where to park in downtown Athens. It would have been nice if they'd offered a continental breakfast, but the full kitchen and the close restaraunts make up for that. The staff told me that an english style pub and japaneese restaraunt are opening on the first floor sometime in 2007.

The building is decked out in UGA colors and logos, but it is tastefully done and not gaudy like some frat boys game room.

I reccomed this when in Athens!
