“Fantastic restaurant in Athens”
Reviewed March 21, 2010

We eat here at least ten times a year. It is consistently good. Granted, sometimes the wait is long, but it's worth it. We always enjoy drinks at the bar with the great bartenders who have worked there for a long time. The prices are very reasonable, considering you get a salad with your entree. Our favorites: shrimp and grits and braised ribs that will melt in your mouth.

“Delicious Valentine Dinner”
Reviewed February 14, 2010

Having just returned from Athens, GA - I wanted to let everyone know about the wonderful service and food at Last Resort Grill.

We called ahead for seating and only had to wait about 30 minutes on Valentines Day weekend! Even though the restaurant was very crowded, the server was personable, composed and knowledgeable.

The entire staff - bartender, host, server and staff worked together to make this a nice experience.

Let me mention that the good tasted great - there was a wide variety of selections and everything was served at the appropriate temperature.

“awful service, overrated food”
Reviewed February 12, 2010

went for sunday brunch, they said we'd have a 20 minute wait, it was 40. the waiter was incredibly rude and never around. i ordered the shrimp and grits. the shrimp was tiny and cold and the grits were a congealed pile of no flavor. we had come to celebrate my friend getting into grad school. i ordered mimosas for us and he says not until 12 at 12:15 i asked if we could order our drinks and he says very loudly i said 12:30! so of course a table gets seated in front of us and they immediately get their mimosas and bloody marys. he didn't come back until closer to 1 and never asked about those drinks(and as someone who's worked in the food industry, it would have been nice if he had put the order in and had them ready at 12:30)i decided not to order since it would have taken another half hour to get them. we couldn't figure out why he was asking another of our brunch guest if their baby needed anything, hello, it's a baby.
he knew his tip wasn't going to be good so he notifies us that he's already added the 18% gratuity by including the baby! we decided to just pay and NEVER COME BACK. i've come before and although my experience wasn't as horrible as the last, it's always been subpar so i won't be missing it. i guess with every visit i was hoping for great food and never got it.

“Pretty good for the money-a few glitches”
Reviewed January 24, 2010

We were in Athens on business and are trying to find the indies in Athens. We did not have to wait for a table so that was good. We were seated in a porch area with plastic attempting to cover the open part. There were radiant gas heaters above us that came on and off-it was warm when they were on -cold when they were off. We ordered the potato pancake for starters. It was a large potato pancake with caramelized onions and balsamic vinegar on top. We then ordered the filet and scallops. The salads that came with them were greens and a few grated carrots. The jalapeno mustard dressing was good. The scallops consisted of 4 scallops about the size of a silver dollar. They were supposed to have a dusting of cornmeal and pepper but this dissolved in the "gazpacho" they are sitting in. The gazpacho had a lot of corn and finely diced tomatoes. Seasoning were very subtle. The steak was about a 4-5 oz portion and came rare as ordered. I t did not seem to be prepared as on the menu because it was lacking the pepper crust and was served with red sauce on the side, almost like a wine reduction. It was pretty tasty but not what was expected. The problem with both entrees is they were almost cold when we got them and the plates were not hot. This was especially bad because the room was cold. The sauce next to the steak was almost refrigerator cold. We split an order of caramel cake for dessert and it was delicious-a nice dense cake. I would recommend this place, but I would stay away from the porch if it is cold outside and be aware that the items don't exactly follow the description on the menu. They do have a nice selection of beer.
