My children have loved the Bear Hollow Zoo all of their lives. It is small, but the animals have nice enclosures and the staff, when around, are very friendly. Most of the animals are rescues, so there is a lot of movement and changes that goes on among the enclosures as the needs of the animals change, but overall there's still a nice variety of animals to see. The reptile house is open for part of the weekend and worth going into when it is; often the staff will take out some of the animals so people can have a closer looks.
It is also walking distance form Memorial park, which has a playground and lake, so if you want to do the zoo first, then walk to the park area, you can make an afternoon of it, especially if you bring a picnic.
