Description: Continuing an Athens tradition in Creole and Cajun fine dining. What began in 1985 as Harry Bissett's New Orleans Cafe, lives on at NONA. Located across from the University Of Georgia's historic North Campus, is the most pleasant spot downtown for lunch or dinner. NONA features three distinct dining areas: the Bayou Room, the Atrium Balcony and the gorgeous upstairs Dining Room. Enter the restaurant through the warm and welcoming old style bar and sit in an atmosphere capturing a feel of Jazz and Mardi Gras. NONA offers dishes inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Louisiana. Delectable dishes prepared with only the finest of ingredients daily. Sample Oysters Rockefeller and Bienville, Shrimp and Grits or Sherry Crab Soup. Feast on delicious entrees such as the French Quarter Filet or Chicken Rochambeau. Chef William Shay and his accomplished staff offer daily specials that suit the most discriminating palate. Weekends are unique with our New Orleans inspired Brunch served Saturday and Sunday and are not to be missed. Be sure to check back often to learn of upcoming events and celebrations. “Very Good Food”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

Location was good, and the atmosphere was more than suitable, but the service was slow. The best part through was the food; top notch! We had 9 in our party and all raved about the food and several of us have a pretty high standards on the food front.

Raw Oysters were fresh and large
Blackend Red Fish was perfect (good crust, spice level was right on and the fish was cooked to perfection)
Even the bread was highly rated by our group

Would go back again.

“Not nearly as good as restaurant it replaced.”

Food has improved. Love to go there each year for Fat Tuesday and they have a good brunch. The seafood pirogue is always good although a little on the spicy side.

“New Orleans in Athens”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Beautifully decorated in a restored brick building on the main street in Athens, Nona is the place to go for good New Orleans cookin'. A full menu of Louisiana specialities means that it is best to have dinner with a party of friends or family so that you can share the full variiety of options. Pretty good shellfish selectiion and very good fresh fish choices set the stage for a delicious dinner. Professional and friendly wait staff who know the menu and are attentive to you needs. Choose a table in the backroom which opens into a full atrium surrounded by restored brick walls. Richt across from the entrance to the University campus where you can relax and take in the scenery after a very good meal.

“good meal in an airy dining room”
Reviewed April 23, 2013 via mobile

interesting menu options, well cooked and served. competes with a number of generic euro/Italian/French/American restaurants along the same stretch of street, so the New Orleans influence makes a distinction. thoroughly enjoyed the meal
