Description: Continuing an Athens tradition in Creole and Cajun fine dining. What began in 1985 as Harry Bissett's New Orleans Cafe, lives on at NONA. Located across from the University Of Georgia's historic North Campus, is the most pleasant spot downtown for lunch or dinner. NONA features three distinct dining areas: the Bayou Room, the Atrium Balcony and the gorgeous upstairs Dining Room. Enter the restaurant through the warm and welcoming old style bar and sit in an atmosphere capturing a feel of Jazz and Mardi Gras. NONA offers dishes inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Louisiana. Delectable dishes prepared with only the finest of ingredients daily. Sample Oysters Rockefeller and Bienville, Shrimp and Grits or Sherry Crab Soup. Feast on delicious entrees such as the French Quarter Filet or Chicken Rochambeau. Chef William Shay and his accomplished staff offer daily specials that suit the most discriminating palate. Weekends are unique with our New Orleans inspired Brunch served Saturday and Sunday and are not to be missed. Be sure to check back often to learn of upcoming events and celebrations. We look forward to serving you!

Walking in the front door you are always greeted in a friendly manner and the atmosphere from the bar area up front to each of the dining areas both upstairs and down is a treat. And as many times as we have been to this restaurant we never have been dissapointed whether it's a sandwich at lunch time or dinner and drinks late in the evening. On this visit my wife had the grilled salmon and I had shrimp and scallops on linguine - I recommend both. And in December the view from the front window is great as you look out and see the Christmas tree all lit up across the street on campus.

We have been to Nona's several times. It is a fairly new restaurant in downtown Athens and has a New Orleans flair. The restaurant portion is unique with a two story view up through a glass ceiling, old brick walls and an upstairs area that overlooks the downstairs and a view of the activity on the street.

The food each time we went was excellant. We concentrated on the fish dishes and oysters, all well prepared and delicious. Wine pairings were also very good. The service was engaging and friendly.

I recommend Nona's very highly.

My girlfriend and I went to Nona for Sunday brunch. The staff was very friendly and attentive and we did not wait long at all for our food. I had crawfish cakes with a type of hollandaise sauce and poached eggs on top and they were great. Fresh, rich and seasoned just right. And their beignets were quite similar to what you would expect at Cafe du Monde, with the added bonus of a raspberry chocolate sauce drizzled on the plate (under the beignets).

I'm from Louisiana originally, and having Nona just a few minutes down the road from me is awesome.

I was in Athens, solo on business and ate at NONA twice. The 1st night I ordered the special which was a Ribeye over mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy and whole fried okra. It was all excellent. The steak was tender and cooked exactly as I ordered, the potatoes and gravy were great and the okra stole the show. I wish they had offered the same special both nights. For the second night I ordered a Filet with red beans and rice. The steak was cooked right but just didnt have the flavor that the other had. The red beans and rice were pretty good though. Both nights I started out with a bowl of seafood gumbo that was really tasty. And if it makes a difference, I sat at the bar both visits. I will definately go back when I am in town.
