“Great for UGA visitors”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

We spent 2 nights at the UGA Hotel visiting my son who is a student there. I booked a larger room with 2 queens and was very impressed. The bathroom was huge, the beds were very comfortable with big pillows and nice linens. The room had a smal fridge and a microwave. It was at the end of a hall and very quiet. The students who work there, from the front desk to the shuttle, were very nice and went out of their way to help us. You can eat at the hotel or the Snellings Dining across the street, although the hotel has better prices! Parking was adjacent to the hotel and cost $10/day. I joined the Parent's Club and will definitely stay there again on my next visit to UGA.

Room Tip: The higher priced rooms are much larger and worth the price.

The staff is extremely helpful and familiar with restaurants and local activities. The shuttle service they provide transports you throughout the campus and downtown area and the drivers are friendly and very good at their jobs. They are the best thing about the hotel. Overall the hotel is quite adequate. The only drawback is the resturant for breakfast and lunch is very limited in its selection and very average in what they do have. The serviceing of the room for things like towels, washcloths, soap and shampoo is very limited, but when the front desk is called they respond very quickly. The rooms are fairly small and show some wear but are clean. Our room was by the elevator which was very noisy. Everytime the door opens it gives two loud dings, and it opened all night long. Bad location for a room.

Room Tip: Get rooms away from the elevators

My wife and I stayed at the Georgia Center for a week. This is a really good affordable option in Athens, close to the Five Points area as well as downtown, and, obviously, the University. The rooms are not big (or at least the one we stayed in was not big), but they have everything you need to be comfortable. We did not have any problems with excessive noise, but we did spot a large cockroach running around, and alerted the front desk immediately. They quickly moved us to another room, and gave us a free mug for our troubles. The staff is indeed very friendly and you can tell they enjoy working there. And if you need to be somewhere at UGA, the shuttle will take you there for free and pick you up whenever you want. We were so happy to learn about the shuttle service, as it was 100 degrees when we were there. The breakfast buffet is not good, but there is a little area where you can get good coffee to go in the morning.

Ok, first, the good: The location is stellar. The staff is just great and very attentive. The student workers are helpful, professional, and funny. The bartenders are great, the drinks are strong, and the prices are good. The food is just ok. The rooms are small but clean. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.

The bad: The room we stayed in felt like a cinder block dorm from the 1950s, which it basically is.The walls really are thin, and the noise level is high. We were kept up until 2am by a couple fighting until the cops hauled them away. When I complained, the manager did discount our room 50%... so points there. Not being able to control the air and get the room cold enough...major downside for me. In hotels, I like to sleep cold. We could not get the room below 76 degrees or so.

All and all, I will probably stay somewhere else the next time we visit our son at UGA.

First time stayin here. Expected that since it is the UGA Conference Center it would be great. The rooms were very small! Which is disappointing, but OK. The fac that we could hear everything that went on next door and up above was not acceptable. In addition, people decided not stnd out in the hall about 5 doors down - I honestly thought theybwere right outside our door. Very distracting - the dorms are quieter and more private. Check out time is 11am. At 9:20am, housekeeping is going door to door knocking on the door and saying "housekeeping"- REALLY! If don't want people to sleep in and be out by 11am, then change your check out time or rent the rooms hourly!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the UGA Hotel and Conference Center. Like many historic hotels, our facility features guest rooms that are part of the original structure and we work diligently to keep all rooms freshly appointed and up-to-date. We also offer larger rooms and suites and hope you will have an opportunity to stay in one of these on a future visit to Athens. Please accept our apology for any noise issues you may have experienced. We encourage our guests to alert the front desk regarding issues of noise or comfort so that we can address it immediately. We also apologize if our housekeepers were intrusive in any way. We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of the hotel and begin cleaning the rooms of departed guests prior to check-out time, which is noon. We appreciate your feedback and hope you’ll give the UGA Hotel another opportunity to serve you.

We visited UGA and stayed at the UGA Hotel. Very convenient location. The Staff did an excellent job. Concierge provides free shuttle service to any location on HUGE UGA campus, as well as restaurants in the town of Athens. Cost was very fair. Required to pay $10/day for parking.

Room Tip: Stay away from elevator--very noisy.
