“Great Food, Great Atmosphere”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We had dinner here on a Friday night of a football weekend. Because we drove in from Atlanta, it was a late reservation and it took a few minutes for our table to clear, but we enjoyed having a cocktail at the bar. When seated the food and service were excellent. The salmon chowder was delicious and the steak frites very good. Prices were reasonable and overall, it was a great experience. We will go back and I have recommended it to friends who visit Athens regularly.

“Farm 255”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

I'm surprised this place is so far down the Athens list. We popped in quite late on a week night so it wasn't busy. It must be buzzing when it's full of people. Farm 255 is spacious and cool with a high ceiling and an open kitchen. The service was good if relaxed. The menu was pretty short which I tend to see as a good sign. We shared a generous butcher board for starter which featured rillettes, chicken liver pâté, aubergine salsa, pork fat popcorn amongst other goodies. We then had mains of grass fed beefburger and a delicious braised pork shoulder on okra with Carolina gold rice grits for me. Everything was fresh and local and tasted really good. All this in a handy location at the less studenty end of town. We'd definitely go again.

“Buttermilk Ice Cream & Pickled Watermelon Rind”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

That was the end and the beginning of our fabulous meal at Farm 255. We were there to celebrate our daughter's 30th birthday and cannot have been more pleased. We started with the pickle "sampler;" the pork belly and the hush puppies moved on to the organic locally raised strip steak and burgers and then the fried peach pie with buttermilk ice cream. As Ms. Ray would say, "YUMMO!" Oh and by the way, ask for "Mandy" she was a great server!

“Steak frites to die for”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

OK, so they may not have this dish on the menu every time because Farm 255 is all local and seasonal. But if they do, go for it! The bearnaise is absolutely the best I've ever had in Athens: eggy, touched with tarragon, perfectly textured. The steak was tender and tasty and the fries? These are not a health food but I ate every one.

“Great for local eaters”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

Farm 255 boasts many locally sourced organic and natural ingredients. The food is excellent although the menu is a bit small. Since much of their food is locally obtained the menu changes all the time so you never really know what will be offered. When we went I had their burger (there always seems to be some variation of a burger on the menu as far as I can tell). This burger was topped with beef tongue and pickled vegetables. While this combo may not be for everyone I thought it was very good. We also got a steak which was good. We got the cheese platter before the meal. The cheeses were good and the accompaniments were also very good. We also got an order of the hush puppies which were excellent. They were drizzled with honey (local of course) and were the best hush puppies I've had. They were very sweet though, so much so that we contemplated getting another order for dessert. The atmosphere is nice, its rustic and slightly upscale on the inside. The service was a bit slow and definitely not what you'd expect for the prices on the menu. The menu was a bit pricey, probably since much of the food is local and organic. All in all the food is good, you can feel that you're eating sustainable, and helping local farmers. However the menu is a bit small and you never really know what you're going to have to choose between and the service isn't the best.
