I have stayed here many times and MacArthur is a safe hotel to stay in. You will find secure parking at the rear of the hotel, a clean pool, good WIFI service and friendly staff. The meals are good value but you might like to check out other places nearby for main meals. The rooms are all pretty much the same and come with TV and on-suite bathroom. Hot water is sometimes something you have to run the taps for a while to get but the aircon in each room is helpful for a better night's sleep when its hot. Sometimes the hotel hosts teams from the USA who come down on "mission trips" and then you will find it can get rather noisy. A great central location and staff will help with your every need.

I have stayed at the MacArthur at least six times over the last three years and it just keeps getting better. I usually am with a group of people from the US who are glad NOT to stay at a US chain hotel. When you are at the MacArthur, the experience is Honduran. It is clean, comfortable, friendly, has great food and service, a very refreshing swimming pool, meeting rooms, free internet, and access to places to walk around, photograph and sight see, restaurants, churches, shopping (all during daylight hours). Security is good. Because its in the heart of the city, you can hear nearby the churches, convent sisters singing), music school, all ambient. Air Conditioning helps tone down unwanted noise. We will send about 6-7 groups a year there. The price is right and its good to help the local economy.

Room Tip: top floor rooms at back are "suites" at great value.

I stayed here on the front and back end of a mission trip recently. It was clean and the staff was friendly. It's nothing particularly fancy but is reliable and great value. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel for two days with my 4 year old son. The hotel itself was nice and rooms clean, but service was quite weak. The hotel is located a couple blocks from the walking street that leads to the Cathedral in the historic part of town. However, there are not many restaurants in this old part of town and little to do in the evening.

The hotel has a pool which we used several times, but it had not been cleaned regularly and the bottom covered with a layer of dust. The water was also not heated and we soon became cold even during the middle of a June day. Notes in the room say not to use the room towels for the pool, but no other towels are provided so we dripped dry before heading back to the room.

The hotel has a cafeteria but it never seemed to be open so I would say that the hotel offered no services to its guests other than a glass door refrigerator in the lobby with sodas for sale. The front desk staff, though polite, were never very helpful or friendly. When I asked if they spoke English the answer was quickly no and when I asked questions they did not seem interested in helping. When I checked out they tried to charge me the double rate, even though they said I would only pay the single rate with my 4 year old when I reserved. When I mentioned this they changed the bill.

The hotel seems to be otherwise well maintained, though and I would recommend it because of the clean rooms, but I would not highly endorse it due to the indifferent staff and lack of guest centered services.

The hotel did seem to have its own parking garage which seemed quite useful in that area if you were driving.

This is a pretty nice hotel in a good location if you want to stay downtown. It is three stories, with two floors of maybe 10-15 rooms each, above a first level that has a lobby, small courtyard, pool, and cafe. We didn't use the pool but it looked pretty clean and well maintained. The decor in the lobby and our room was simple and clean, but somewhat dated. The lobby has several couches that are convenient to sit in if you need to wait for a ride or to use the internet. Shower wasn't piping hot but was hot enough, with good water pressure, and warmed up plenty quickly. Wall unit air conditioner kept us comfortable at night.

It is about 50 meters from a police station, and with so many police personnel coming to and from the station we always felt very safe.

Our room was a bit far from the router on our floor, so the WiFi signal was pretty weak and would frequently drop connection. That said, the quality was good enough for Skype video calls if I got close enough to a router. If in-room Wi-Fi is important to you ask for a room closer to the stairs, but this would also be closer to the street and may be somewhat noisier. Or get a quiet back room and just go down the hall or to the lobby to download/upload your messages.

The cafe was open for breakfast from 6:30 to 10 AM and we ate there several times. You order a la carte. We had eggs & bacon, omelettes, fresh fruit, pancakes, french toast, and cereal; everything was simply prepared but of good quality and made to order. We did not find many restaurants near the hotel, but it is a 5-10 minute walk to all the major US fast-food chains on the Parque Central.

We used this hotel as a base for a two-person mission trip and would stay here again if being downtown was important, but if location within Tegus was not a real factor I would stay at the Humuya Inn, which is closer to the embassy district and a step up in quality.

Places like this one seem to be unique to Honduras: spotless little hotel-guesthouses evocative of RC ecclesiastical facilities from a half-century ago. The Macarthur was clean and seemed utterly brand new. Didn't come across any other similar scale hostelry remotely this good in near walking distance of Parque Centrale. Rooms and bath are spartan affairs, neat and tidy. Floors shined and polished. One side of the building abuts the National Conservatory of Music -- a school. Stay in a room on that side for an unforgettable experience. A small pool area doesn't get much sun, but nice to sit outside there, or in the TV lounge room. Breakfasts are good, but not included in room rate. There are convenience stores just around the corner from the Hotel, where also is situated a large police station. Entirely safe location at all hours. Internet doesn't reach rooms in back very well.

Room Tip: free concert included on one side of building
