The owners Udo and Silvia have created a gorgeous jungle retreat. Our room beauty cabin was set high in the trees with view of the Pico Bonito Forest. The birds were our natural alarm clock. The cabin is private and very clean. Although we are not rafters, there is plenty to do with hikes, swimming, kyaking, sipping on cocktails (of course!) and horse back riding.
The horse trek takes you into and around the villages. Depending on your experience level, Silvia will make your experience memorable!
The food was awesome! The owners have worked hard to please every type of palate! The fruit melts in your mouth!
We were slightly rushed before arriving, so we didn't not have time to brush up on our Spanish, but it would be helpful and the locals appreciate it or just smile, that says a lot!

A hidden gem. Backpackers and island hoppers should deffinately stop here for 2 nights to get the variety Honduras offers. 30 minutes in a taxi and you are in the wild! Great contrast to the heat of the coast. Rooms range from free with a tour to luxury. Saw a toucan! Food is great and inexpensive, owners are relaxed and welcoming. Friendly gathering around the bar in the evening. Swim in the river and admire the virgin forest. Walk through the grounds and pick yourself an orange. Go extreme and white water raft, downhill mountain bike or treck to the waterfall. The lodge has many quirky features that have come from the owners passionate use of natural materials (rocks, riverwood) etc

Room Tip: If you only got $10 take the simple white room with comfy bed or take a trip and sleep for free If...

My Daughter was spending the first 2 weeks of our round the world adventure with us in our first stop, Honduras. After diving on Utila we were looking for a couple of days in the jungle before moving on to Copan Ruinas then Daughter home.
We found Omega on the internet and decided to go with them because they offered camping (my partner and I are on a real lean backpacker's budget) and the prices of their tours seemed really good value.
On arrival we were very impressed with the whole set-up. Beautiful gardens and pool/bar area. Washrooms toilets and showers were such an improvement on what we had found on Utila. The catch was the prices for everything except the camping and tours. We were not looking to pay as much anywhere during our time in Honduras as we pay at home in London for food and drink. I was very surprised to find that a Honduran beer at Omega (a $20 taxi ride from La Ceiba) was almost TWICE as expensive as the MOST EXPENSIVE bar on Utila (where everything has to come 20kms by boat). If I wanted to eat my fill of an evening I would be needing one of the more high end dishes, they were 200-250Lims, again nearly twice as much as the most expensive restaurants on Utila. There's the catch.... once you're at Omega there ain't nowhere else to go. At least on Utila the competition keeps the price vaguely realistic.
The tours were very enjoyable, we did the river swim and the horse trek. During the trek it was obvious that Udo and Silvia have not only put a lot of work into their lodge but also into the surrounding community, both on an ecological and financial level. All this should be commended.
Omega is a perfect jungle retreat for those wishing to sample some high end comfort in this all too often still rundown country. However, when they offer tents and dorms and thus sell themselves to backpackers too, then the bar and kitchen prices should not be so artificially high.
Knowing we were coming from Utila, getting the early ferry (too early for any shops in La Ceiba we found out too late), and on a camper's budget, it might have been nice if they could have offered us the advice of getting a later ferry and perhaps then being able to visit the shops on the way up, but I guess that would give the game away? Instead we just arrived and were immediately stunned by the prices on the menu.
All in all, we had a lovely time but our travel funds took a much larger battering than expected. Highly recommended for anyone looking fora touch of luxury and with budget to match. definitely not recommended if you're on a camping/backpacking budget.

Room Tip: If you are on a budget make sure you bring your own food and drink. No use of kitchen but if you'...

First of all the trip from La Ceiba aiport was very easy. Picked up with no problems by a taxi arranged through the lodge, drive was 45 minutes along dirt track roads, through a stunning river valley.
The lodge is in a idyllic loaction. It's basic, but has a few extra touches. There are flowers blooming everwhere and lots of tropical trees growing all around the lodge. Stayed in the Creek Cabin, no bathroom and mosquito netting walls. Towels and comfortable bedding was supplied and the noises were very soothing from the stream that ran undernearth the cabin and the countless birds and animals you could hear.
There is a solar powered outdoor shower next to the cabin, which is just a perfect way to start the day, looking up through the trees to the mountains in the distance. Bring biodegradable soaps, if you can, to use.
The tours that can be arranged are all expertly run by very professional and experienced guides. Did white water rafting, kayaking through the mangroves to the sea and hiking to the El Bejuco waterfall.
The food is excellent, very good value for money and all freshly prepared and the staff are lovely and friendly.
Bring insect repellent and lots of sun screen! Can be chilly in the evenings also.

Room Tip: There are several choices. The Creek cabin is room only, so showers and bathroom are a little walk a...

We stayed for two nights in the Beauty View Cabin, which has entered the Top 5 of rooms I’ve stayed in around the world (and I’ve stayed in a lot!). We arrived by taxi from La Ceiba ($20) which took our driver nearly an hour on the dirt road. Returning with a more competent driver provided by the lodge took 25 minutes though! We were met and greeted by a girl working behind the bar who was very friendly and showed us around and to our room. This introduction was typical of the style of the lodge during our stay- everyone is made to feel welcome like you’re part of the family.

There are some budget rooms available plus three cabins- the bamboo cabin, another built over a creek and the Beauty View which we’d chosen from photos sent by the German owners. We weren’t disappointed! On two levels and built entirely of native wood, the cabin has a fantastic view over the forest. Its totally open plan with fine mesh fly screens giving the impression that you’re outside-its like living in a posh tree house! I examined the fly screens and didn’t find a single hole or split -very rare in my experience.

Though the room is generally shaded there are also blinds opened by an ingenious system of pullies and ropes- all built by the owner, and a real achievement. The cabin was spotlessly clean -again in my experience, very hard to achieve in a rustic, rural environment. The towels were nice and fresh and there nice touches like fresh flowers.

The lodge itself is also unique. Its set by a stream in the forest, which fills the natural swimming pool by a nice wooden decking and bar/restaurant. This is where all the guides and visitors gather on a night to swap tall tales of rivers rafted, mountains scaled and fish caught. it’s a really friendly scene, and you can almost imagine that you’re at a travellers bar in South East Asia rather than in the Honduran Jungle. The food was varied and tasty and prepared by a small team of local ladies- you pop your head round the kitchen door and order straight from them. Filtered water is free too- they top up your bottle when asked.

The appeal to most travellers of the lodge is the white water rafting trips they offer. We didn’t take one but were told that they are highly reputable and are one of the only operators in the area who use two boats on a trip (essential for full safety). We opted for the horseback trek and this was great. There were just two of us and Sylvia the owner and a guide. We trekked through forests and rivers and had a picnic in a lovely jungle glade and swam in a crystal clear river- a great memory. I’ve had bad equine experiences in the past but my mount was a calm and well behaved beast called Nuggett and he took good care of me!

Downsides? I suppose for Honduras its not cheap - though $100 for Beauty View was well worth it. The horse trek was $150 for two though this gave us a $40 discount from the room. Our total bill with tax (always excluded in Honduras) was about $450.

The real joy of Jungle Lodge for me was waking on a morning to find yourself in the midst of the jungle dawn chorus which was deafening. The chirruping, croaking and squawking goes on all night so if you’re a light sleeper bring ear plugs, though you’ll miss out on a real experience.

In summary- a great Lodge, nice people, and a fantastic room. 5 stars.

Room Tip: choose Beauty View cabin!

Whether or not you are the adventurous type I suggest at least one night's stay at the Omega Jungle Lodge. Falling asleep and waking up to the songs of the rainforest simply should not be missed if you are traveling in Honduras. If it's in your budget stay in the Bamboo or Beautyview Cabin. The original, hand crafted woodwork is gorgeous and the surrounding plant life is a hub for hummingbirds and oropendolas. The rafting, waterfall hike and lagoon kayak tours are all well-worth the cost (plus you'll get a credit towards the cost of a night's stay). The tour guides, staff, and owners are both knowledgeable and friendly.
