“Most enjoyable experience - will be returning without a doubt”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2009

Recently we had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Hacienda San Lucas. It is ideally located a short distance from the busy main streets of Copan. The rooms were spacious, clean, modern and relaxing. We was more than happy with the fresh foods and the delicious meals that were served. The owners are friendly, accomodating and committed to helping those in need in the surrounding areas. As I saw firsthand when we were leaving, the profits from the Hacienda San Lucas go to assisting people with medicine, necessities and other items we take for granted. It´s unfortunate there exists no higher rating than 5/5.

If you are visiting Copan, you absolutely must visit this finca. There really isn't much like it anywhere. We did not stay there, as we wanted to be closer to the village (about a 5-10 ride in Tuk-Tuk), but we are so happy we went there for lunch. The food was simple, traditional, and fresh. The presentation was nevertheless elegant and the service was perfect. Don't pass up the lovingly prepared desserts.

Flavia is to be admired and congratulated for what she has created here in Copan.

There is not enough to say about the rustic beauty of the Hacienda San Lucas. Flavia is the best host we have ever met. She is surrounded by a wonderful staff, including Argi, her right arm, and assistant Wendy.

This property is nestled in the mountainside with a glorious view. The eight rooms sit above the main house. They have ample space, and are simply decorated with timber, rock and stone. At night, hundreds of candles are lit in glass jars in the dining area, all throughout the property, up the winding stone stairs, including the bedrooms. It's romantic and beautiful.

The meals here are superb. Each night brings a new dish that is authentic and homemade. Fresh seafood and fish tops the list. The selection of wines is excellent.

If you want peace and tranquility, you can't miss this stop that is situated only a few miles outside the town of Copan. Flavia makes every one of her guests feel special. Her team cannot do enough to make your visit the very best. They will book anything from transportation to any other activity you want to do. If you love yoga, there is an outdoor studio that takes in a view of the mountains that you just have to see.

Thank you again to Flavia, Argi, and Wendy. You made our trip very special. We'll be back.

The Hacienda San Lucas was the final stop on a two week honeymoon and it was the climax that we had dreamed of.

It truly is an assault on the senses: For sight you have the stunning vistas of the Copan valley complete with vultures swooping and gliding in search of a meal; For smell you awake to the scent of wood smoke and the lush vegetation enlivened by the night's rain; For taste you have the immense Hacienda San Lucas gourmet meal made fresh everyday (I've tried recreating the banana pancakes but to no avail); For sound you have the muffled chatter of restaurant guests and the wind creeping through the forest; and for touch you have the cold stone walls and smooth wooden beams of your room .

Flavia and her ever growing team of staff go out of their way to make everything as near perfect as it can be and I learned more Spanish getting lifts with Bilo (sorry if this is misspelt) back and forth from Copan than in the rest of my time in Honduras.

There are cheaper places to stay in Copan but none that will live as long in the memory.

  • Liked — No one thing stands out. It's a holistic experience!
  • Disliked — The rooms were quite dark at night.

Hacienda San Lucas is a fantastic getaway in an historic and picturesque setting in the mountains overlooking the Copan River and about 10 or 15 minutes from town by transport (longer by foot) . Great ambiance and attention to detail--like candles lit in your room at dusk, someone to greet you on the footpath with an umbrella after arriving up the hill following a tour of the Archaeological Park of Mayan ruins on a rainy day. The rooms even sport eco-friendly solar lighting, but bring book lights if you want to do a lot of bedtime reading.. Breakfast (which is included), lunch or dinner are all exquisite. The hot stone massage is a must, followed by sunset views on the terrace with a glass of wine. On the expensive side of Honduran accommodations, it still offers luxury for a bargain on an American scale.

This hotel is simply fabulous. The food is exquisite, the rooms are rustic and tasteful, the atmosphere is romantic and tranquil. THe only thing the property is missing is a pool. And it is a little far to walk to downtown, but the tranquility is worth it.

  • Liked — the tranquility and the food!
  • Disliked — no pool, too far from downtown

my only regret with hacienda san lucas is that i couldn't stay longer. from our pick-up at the bus station, to our ride up the hill in the bed of the pick-up truck, down to our 4:45 am wake up call and our cab waiting for us to take us back down to the bus station (arrangements made courtesy of flavia of course), and every moment in between, hacienda san lucas is close to heaven, in look and feel. the grounds here feel sacred, in part due to Los Sapos, and in part due to Flavia's uncanny ability to make guests feel like they are as connected to the land and the hacienda as she is. Every moment of our stay here was perfect. One of the best meals I've ever had (and undoubtedly the best meal during my trip to Honduras) was made from scratch in the hacienda's kitchen. the corn soup! the rave reviews are to be believed. Aesthetically, this place was a dream. perfectly appointed rooms, excellent hammock-to-guest ratio, sweeping views of the valley around every corner...i cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was. i cannot wait to return. someday it will happen.
